After making its Netflix debut on Sept. 28, Andrew Dominick’s “Blonde” has received an intense wave of criticism among viewers for several reasons, largely centering on its depict…

has released a statement against the film, alleging it contributes to “anti-abortion propaganda.”

In the film, based on Joyce Carol Oates’ novel of the same title, Monroe is seen being forced to go through two illegal abortions, both of which leave a lasting scar on the Hollywood star. One scene in particular shows Monroe talking to a photoreal CGI version of her unborn fetus, which sympathetically questions her about its own fate asking, “You won’t hurt me this time, will you?”

With the film industry taking a deeper look at its depictions of abortion in light of the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade on June 24, Planned Parenthood’s national director of arts and entertainment engagement Caren Spruch chimed in on the conversation, calling its portrayal potentially harmful.

“As film and TV shapes many people’s understanding of sexual and reproductive health, it’s critical these depictions accurately portray women’s real decisions and experiences. While abortion is safe, essential health care, anti-abortion zealots have long contributed to abortion stigma by using medically inaccurate descriptions of fetuses and pregnancy,” Spruch said in a statement shared with.

“Planned Parenthood respects artistic license and freedom, however, false images only serve to reinforce misinformation and perpetuate stigma around sexual and reproductive health care. Every pregnancy outcome — especially abortion — should be portrayed sensitively, authentically, and accurately in the media,” Spruch added. “We still have much work to do ensure that everyone who has an abortion can see themselves onscreen.

why anti abortion/pro life is deemed propaganda and Pro abortion/anti life not? it doesnt matter which one you support but that on mainstream media platforms one is rights and the other propaganda is just hypocracy.

Until someone can figure out where the 800,000 missing children are in the United States, I wouldn’t worry too much about abortion laws.

🍿

They drink blood, want to butcher lives.

This is a true story and actually happened to somebody. I’m sorry but you don’t get to change a woman’s truth because it’s inconvenient for you.

Great moviee

Everyone is so one sided about everything. They’re allowed to be anti abortion if that’s what they feel. It’s about tolerance and respect for differing opinions. Grow up

Yeah, the part here the fetus talks to her and blames her. Disturbing.

They’re right.

Is Planned Parenthood really comparing abortion in 1950s America to today?

No one cares go be outraged somewhere else sick of American outrage culture piss off.

While the fetus scenes were tacky, I'm sure that the majority of those watching the NC 17 rated film aren't going to be bothered by it.

Just finished watching the torturous movie 'Blonde.' Almost 3 hour joyless film. And despite a good lead performance, there is almost nothing here that captures Marilyn's true talents, charisma, or achievements.

So getting mad about showing how the industry forced women to choose between a child and a career...which they're complicit in...

MichelArouca

Blonde production wasn’t very accurate in the context of this so naturally it blew up. Duh.

It’s a movie ya donuts

It sounds fucking creepy. No desire to see a talking animated fetus.

Awful in any sense.

The Mental Health Systems Act of 1980 was legislation signed by President Jimmy Carter which provided grants to community mental health centers. In 1981 Ronald Reagan pushed a political effort through the U.S. Congress to repeal most of MHSA. Your basic GOP for 40+ years. So a male prisoner has a choice but a woman doesn’t. Gotcha.
