The tiny solar-powered drone flew 164 feet, just over half the length of a football field.
Ingenuity made an 872-foot round trip inside Jezero Crater, as shown in this flight map superimposed here atop terrain imaged by the agency's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.On Friday, Ingenuity climbed to an altitude record of 33 feet and flew 423 feet to a new landing site. In weeks ahead, it will serve as a free-flying aerial scout for the Perseverance rover in the search for signs of past life.
