Roughly 100 American citizens remain in the country, under threat from the Taliban and ISIS-K.

Department of Defense Press Secretary John Kirby participates in a news briefing. | Alex Wong/Getty ImagesThe Pentagon’s top spokesperson said Tuesday the Biden administration was “obviously concerned” for the American citizens and Afghan allies still on the ground in Afghanistan following the completion of the U.S. military withdrawal from the country, acknowledging they were under a high level of threat from the Taliban and the regional Islamic State affiliate known as ISIS-K.

Still, Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed Monday that roughly 100 American citizens remained in Afghanistan — despite President Joe Biden’s pledge earlier this month that the United States would maintain a troop presence in the country until all Americans who wanted to leave were evacuated. Biden later extended that commitment to America’s Afghan allies, as well.

Pressed on the threat to the Americans left behind, Kirby said: “There is no question that the threat environment in Afghanistan remains high. And certainly, we obviously are concerned about the potential for Taliban retribution going forward. And we certainly — and we saw it ourselves — are mindful of the threat that ISIS-K continues to pose inside Afghanistan.”

Put your concerns in one hand and Special Opps rescue teams in the other, which would be effective?

What BS by the Biden administration. Biden promised that no American would be left behind. LIE. Now the Taliban is going door to door shooting people. Biden left our service dogs behind. Who will look after them? Aren’t they considered members of the Military?

More accurate to say 'the few Americans who didn't want to leave Afghanistan'. Unless propagating a false narrative is the point.

Why in hell would an American go to Afghanistan during a war so near the declared surrender date?

McCarthy slams Biden for hundreds of Americans left in Afghanistan after last plane departsAccording to McCarthy, some Americans left in Afghanistan include 'college kids trying to get out...and a mother and her children.' 👀 What American were in a war zone other than military, gov contractors or aid workers? These were people who ignored all warnings and went anyway. They didn’t have to register with US upon their arrival in Afghanistan. Nearly all of those folks are actually Afghan/American dual-citizens who wouldn't depart and leave their families behind. Should they have been rounded-up at gunpoint and forced onto the planes?
