Peloton faces backlash after disabling free running feature on its $4,000 treadmills.

Peloton is facing backlash after disabling a free run setting on its high-end treadmill, which would have forced users to pay an extra monthly membership fee, according to reports across social media.

In response to the customer outcry, Peloton said it would waive three months of membership fees for all Tread+ owners, as it works on another update that brings back the “Just Run” feature. People who had shelled out more than $4,000 for Peloton’s Tread+ treadmill machine were previously able to select a “Just Run” setting and exercise without accessing Peloton’s digital workout content. But following a recent safety update, the “Just Run” feature has disappeared, multiple users said on Twitter after receiving an email notice from the company.

That meant Peloton users would have needed to pay a $39 monthly membership fee to use their treadmills. Wow. The Peloton Tread will no longer allow you to use your $3000 treadmill without a $39.99 a month subscription.

Sooo for 4K that thing should offer you water after your “free” walk.

They don't give a rat's ass about the backlash as long as they get the 40 bucks

What would anyone expect? LMAO They dropped the fees to boost sales. And now those fees are back because it's either that or you got a $4K living room coat rack. $4K woulda bought a lot of spiffy track shoes

4-Thou?!?! That can be a fucking Car you bought instead. 😑😑😑😑😑

So a child dies on their garage filler and their response is 'oh good, we have a pretext to insist to that our marks, err users, pay $40 to use equipment that they have paid $3000 to purchase.

Peloton should face backlash for charging absurd prices for their equipment.

Well, Peloton has to make more money so it can pay off those lawsuits from Peloton having killed people's children and pets.

If you value MRR / ARR over consumer satisfaction + consumption, you might want to reevaluate business model.

There are good treadmills for FAR less. Why are people paying $4,000 for that treadmill?!

Stop buy expensive treadmills and stop buying onepeloton crap.

cope

I'd be :c

Get off the hamster wheel and get a pair of running shoes.

Just reverse engineer it locally.

This is a story that only affects the 1%

I would send it back at the right moment I realized that issue.

Weren’t they supposed to recall these treadmills

This is the type of thing that should cause the company to go out of business forever. But that won't happen, and they'll continue ripping off their customers because they can and capitalism forgives them.

4K? Geez!

$40/month after spending $4000 is mind boggling.

7 ways to increase your blood Oxygen Lack of oxygen weakens every bodily system and is the main cause of disease. It weakens the immune system, which can lead to viral infections, DNA mutations

I bet NBC will find it was only non white buyers being charged.

They probably figured if you're dumb enough to pay $4000 for a treadmill, you'd be dumb enough to pay the monthly fee too.

That’s why I prefer to workout outside in God’s gym.

Not like people that own these can afford the monthly subscription.

And exactly how many people does this actually impact? It’s got to be a very low number. This is a dumb premise

Ha! $4k for a treadmill that requires a monthly gym membership fee. Peloton

This is hilarious

The answer to all your questions is money. Hope that changes some day...

Emaciated yuppies won’t know what to do now.

If a Communist revolution happened the Proliterians would know who the Bourgeoisie are based solely on if they owned one of these.

Just go out side and run bam, saved you $4000

A Rightful backlash. Didn’t recall treadmill that killed children and now this.

Maybe try one of these instead?

'What's the future like, time traveller?' -'Well in 2021 there'll be machines that'll save us having to work so hard. So we'll work harder to buy machines to work more so we don't suffer from lack of work. Then we'll work more to pay to use our own machines'.

So, it's the drug dealer business model: the first one's on me, but after that, you gotta pay!

Why can't this crowd who is so let down cuz of this feature not run freely, outside, for free?

I'll just run outside thanks.

Imagine buying a pair of running shoes and being told you can't run in them unless you pay $40/mo. Car companies can charge monthly to allow access to the trunk/hatch and/or back doors. Sub fees to use the freezer portion of your fridge. $4k for this bullshit?

I feel like there was a much better way to do this. They should give people full refunds if they don't want to opt into the monthly subscription bc they purchased it with the impression it wouldn't be necessary

👉🏻HardPass👈🏻

Imagine buying a $4000 peloton treadmill and then not paying for the subscription to do the classes. Maybe just buy a cheaper treadmill then.

lol go buy a regular treadmill then.

keggert0811 👀👀

yeah if you own one of these you should be chased by dogs instead

inflation, bro

Why type of business sense does this fall under? Only idiots would purchase one of these and to continue paying in just to use what you purchased. Frak Peloton! I will NEVER own one

Shelling out $40 a month to access my $4000 hamster wheel

The pandemic has subsided. This was purely a business decision. P-ton says if it’s back to work it’s time to pay up. Nothing is for free and they planned this all along.

😂😂😂😂😂 4.000 usd for a treadmill.

If you can afford a 4k treadmill you can afford a subscription fee.

More money than sence buying this rubbish go out side and run , it's free

LOL What did any of you expect? $4K for a treadmill? It'd need to do the running for me to be worth that
