PD: One person dead after shooting at University of Arizona, suspect now in custody

The victim, only identified as a professor, was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital. The professor died at the hospital.

Police say the shooting occurred in the John W. Harshbarger Building, northwest of the Student Union.— University of Arizona Police October 5, 2022 The alleged shooter, identified as 46-year-old Murad Dervish, left the area before police arrived but has since been taken into custody. Campus police officials say the Department of Public Safety took Dervish into custody near Gila Bend.

The alleged shooter was a former student at UArizona who was not allowed to be in the building, according to campus police. A staff member recognized the former student and called police.University police ask that all non-essential faculty and staff, as well as students, either leave campus or to go to their residential hall.This is an ongoing incident.
