Authorities identified Payton Gendron, a white 18-year-old, as the gunman accused of launching an attack on predominantly Black shoppers and workers at the Tops Friendly Market, killing 10 people and injuring three others, on Saturday afternoon.at his high school. But he was never charged with a crime and had no further contact with law enforcement after his release from a hospital following a mental health evaluation, according to The Associated Press.
