The pandemic has shuttered brothels in Nevada, the only state with legal prostitution. While sex work seems incompatible with social distancing, the industry says brothels could reopen safely with precautions, like massage businesses.

LAS VEGAS — Before the coronavirus pandemic, tourist-dependent Nevada had a notorious attraction: It was the only place in America where someone could legally pay for sex.Legal brothels have been shuttered for nearly a year, leaving sex workers to offer less-lucrative alternatives like online dates or nonsexual escort services.

Nevada, like many states, saw a spike of coronavirus cases, hospitalizations and deaths around the winter holidays, but since mid-January, those numbers have been steadily declining. Little, who was working at the Moonlite Bunny Ranch brothel in the capital of Carson City, says she has lost 95% of her income amid the closures. She said she’s been providing virtual dates, webcam experiences and creating X-rated content through subscriber site OnlyFans, among other ventures.

Allissa Starr, who was working at Sheri’s Ranch brothel in Pahrump, about an hour outside Las Vegas, said some women she worked with are illegally offering sex for money despite virus concerns.Starr, like Little, started offering virtual dates, where she might share a glass of wine, dinner and conversation with clients.

Reopening the brothels, Starr said, is “a personal risk, just like traveling. If you wear your mask, if the girls got COVID tests before they came to the ranch, I think it could be done safely.”

I spent an evening playing roulette in Vegas with a couple of brothel workers. It changed my mind about sex work. It needs decriminalized at least, and legalized at best, because it could be relegated and would curtail trafficking I believe.

What about schools?

'seems' incompatible with social distancing. 6 feet gets thrown right out the window! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ 😅😅😅

Meh. It’s doable

If you're going to have sex with a prostitute is COVID-19 really your biggest concern?

Yuk, just plain ole grossness🤮🤮🤮

Not an easy solution. The customers are more difficult to manage - short of washing them prior to contact.

Yeah because the one thing we can’t lose is disgusting single and married men getting together with strange women gofigure

If I went to a brothel I'm not sure it would be COVID I'd be worried about catching.

How about N95 masks & this guide?

Tonsil massages ?!

Massage businesses .. ? 😂😂

Dog whistling? Ugh.

Hey boss, I gotta great idea for a story!

Prostitution shouldn’t exist at all, so kudos to corona.

New at the Mustang Ranch: Drive-thru Boinking!! Remote deposit service available online only.

My ironic first thought is 'who gives a f√¢k!?'

Is it news during this times. Shit AP

They can work remotely. It's called, porn!

The mind boggles.

Sex work is work

CDC releases the Double D's policy for brothels. Double Mask and Doggie Style.

This should be decriminalized nationwide.

It seems incompatible BECAUSE IT IS.

I can’t wait til the AP and the CDC recommend gloryholes.

Double and Triple Masks, and Anal Swabs.

As if it wasn’t taboo before?

Damn wear a third mask !

The Entire Nevada Democratic Party Resigned After DSA Candidates Swept Their ElectionsAfter a group of progressive candidates backed by their local Democratic Socialists of America chapter swept all five elections for leadership roles in the Nevada Democratic Party, every single staff member in the party quit. All those 'pro-unity' establishment Democrats did this by the way. AND they drained the entire state party bank account on their way out to try to suffocate the party since they can't be in charge of it anymore. What a peculiar interpretation.
