, a team of researchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston found that up to 64 percent of adverse effects may be attributable to this kind of worry.says placebo researcher Julia W. Haas"Collecting systematic evidence regarding these nocebo responses in vaccine trials is important for COVID-19 vaccination worldwide, especially because concern about side effects is reported to be a reason for vaccine hesitancy.

According to the team's analysis, comparing ratios between the two groups, the nocebo effect accounted for up to 76 percent of systemic adverse events and 24 percent of local adverse events after the first vaccine dose. In total, this means that 64 percent of all adverse reactions could be down to the nocebo effect, which suggests that we might be able to do something about it, the researchers say.
