In delayed fast affiliate results just released by Nielsen, the 93rd Oscars were watched by 9.85 million with a dismal rating of 1.9 among the 18-49 demographic That is an all-time low for Hollywood’s biggest night

In delayed fast affiliate results just released by Nielsen, the 93rd Academy Awards were watched by 9.85 million with a dismal rating of 1.9 among the 18-49 demographic. In fact, it is a drop of over 58% in terms of audience from what the previous low of the 2020 Oscars snared on February 9 last year. In terms of the key demo, the 2021 Oscars is down 64.2% in the earlier ratings from the 2020 Oscars.

While the number from last night’s Union Station-set show may be jaw dropping, no one is really surprised. Coming off years of declining results in general, plus the last several months of little watched virtual awards shows, theatres closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, and a slate of Oscar nominees that lacked big name recognition, the Disney-owned network and AMPAS have long known they were in for a drubbing.

Now, ABC planned on officially releasing their 2021 Oscar data tomorrow when the final numbers are in. As other broadcasters have done with similar big-ticket events over the past year or so, those numbers will incorporate at home viewing across all domestic time zones, as well as out-of-home viewing. This year the Academy Awards were also available online on the Hulu+Live platform, ABC.com, YouTubeTV, the ABC app and a handful of other options.

Maybe cause they can't afford cable

It was awful!!! Pretentious and movies I never heard of. People looked bored to tears. I’m a big fan of the Oscar but Hollywood has lost it

Yeah and it's gonna keep continuing this trend until they start giving the awards to the movies people actually watch. Who the fuck's gon see Nomadland or Minari!

This shows the complete disconnection with America. Irrelevance is a major problem. To those who tout the 1st amendment, and performers right to express themselves, you are 100% correct. But clearly I don’t have to watch.

Yeah... I'm pretty sure that more people watched this year's ceremony compared to 1929's.

I am going to your place of business and shout how racist and bad this country is. I would be shown the door in a second.

It was awful and very boring

It doesn't matter who the host is, people are not interested in watching these awards shows.

dafreaknmee Peace should be in life health for everyone always but this deseace time every one want peace Rilex I pray always God dua happy ness spread human humanity honest rispect together help happy ness spread my Twitter writer. People are best answer giver I m very happy for India help

We hear politics all day long the last thing we want to see are over paid actors complain even more

Maybe they shouldn’t have spent years alienating their audience...

The show was missing many things this year due to the pandemic: the glitz & glam of the red carpet, a big live audience, best movie pics that people actually saw. Maybe a host and some humor could have boosted the numbers.

Oh shit! This was last night?

You kidding …… so WOKE 🙄

OscarsSoWoke

They could have at least recorded the nominated songs and played them. Best Movie clips and performances were greatly missed.

People are probably sick of these out of touch rich people thinking their opinions matter like they’re the voices of reason. Actors should act, musical groups should play their music, and athletes should play their games. Your entertainment is an escape

Shout out to the artists. This was a night for them!!! I enjoyed seeing and hearing the appreciation for their work.

THE MUPPETS *MUST* HOST IN 2022.

I would have loved to seen that pitch meeting, “Ok. We’re not showing any movie clips. No one cares. We’re going to be talking about people no one knows. Sweet. And the music will be in the pre-show. So, no movies and no music! What can go wrong?!”

The more they listen to the cancel culture crowd, the more people will turn away....

All the movies looked sad , who the shit wanted to watch sad movies during the year of Covid ?!?

Let Whoopie host, then I will watch MeghanMcCain

I still enjoyed the Oscars with some amazing moments of laughter❤️

A bit of perspective. Hollywood is filled with assholes and no one gives a shit.

Who is surprised — not😞 Oscars ratings drop over 50% from 2020, hit an all-time low 2019 - 29.6 million 2020 - 23.6 million 2021 - 9.85 million The People have spoken — Stay out of Politics and entertain us — do your job and keep your Crap Wokeness out of our faces 🤦🏻‍♀️ Oscars

Play stupid political games win loser ratings. 🤣

good, this woke bullshit needs to stop

Because they were up against the Munsters and the sham wow commercial.

hmmm its almost like the American public doesnt appreciate being preached to by a bunch of self important hypocrites

TV Ratings: Oscars Slump to All-Time LowIn final numbers, the Oscars' ratings just barely topped 10 million viewers. Golden days of Hollywood........are over. The show's been going downhill for years. It's no longer a program that is fun to watch for a variety of reasons. Perhaps it's time it stops being televised altogether.

Oscars ratings plunge to all-time low, dropping 58 percent from last yearThe ratings for the Oscars plunged to an all-time low, drawing only 9.85M total viewers, down from 23.6M viewers for last year's telecast. A flop 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Funny.....but for an industry that is all about entertainment, I found that there was nothing entertaining about the program, painful to watch......boring actually! We're all sick of the non-stop race baiting.

'Nomadland' wins best picture at a social distanced OscarsChloe Zhao’s “Nomadland,” a wistful portrait of itinerant lives on open roads across the American West, won best picture Sunday at the 93rd Academy Awards, where the China-born Zhao also became just the second woman to win best director, and the first woman of color. The “Nomadland” victory, while widely expected, nevertheless capped the extraordinary rise of Zhao, a lyrical filmmaker whose winning film is just her third, and which — with a budget less than $5 million and featuring a cast populated by non-professional actors -- ranks as one of the most modest-sized movies to win Hollywood’s top honor. Zhao’s next film, Marvel’s “Eternals,” has a budget approximately 40 times that of “Nomadland.” Only Kathryn Bigelow, 11 years ago for “The Hurt Locker,” had previously won best director. But “Nomadland,” as a plain-spoken meditation on solitude, grief and grit, stuck a chord in a pandemic-ravaged year. It made for an unlikely Oscar champ: A film about people who gravitate to the margins took center stage. What a legend Sir Anthony Hopkins is, unbelievable woman of color? She was absolutely beautiful and entertaining in her acceptance speech. 💗congratulations to her.
