From WSJopinion: The government should make people consider the externalities of Covid. If you don’t wear a mask, society bears the cost, and you should too, writes Alan S. Blinder.

Journal Editorial Report: Paul Gigot interviews Johns Hopkins Dr. Marty Makary. Image: Reuers/Dado RuvicThe U.S. government’s disastrous failure in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic is a tragedy in many acts—from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s initial errors with test kits and masking, to a know-nothing president who confuses magical thinking with thinking, even to craven political considerations when the pandemic was seen as a blue-state problem, and much more.

But one of the most important sources of government failure has received comparatively little attention—and it’s economic in nature.

opinion Now use this argument to support my 2A rights...

opinion Which government? Federal or state? Poorly worded twiiter caption.

opinion MASKS DO NOT STOP VIRUSES!!! How many times does science have to say it

opinion In 2018 alone, the typical flu virus infected 42 Million people; 61,000 died in the 8 month season.

opinion 7500 people die in US every day. Consistent statistic for decades. Every life is precious but we don’t close the economy because someone is sick or expires.

opinion The basic reasons for govt must be restated: a. Protect private property b. Even the playing field for all participants c. Manage civil criminal conflict. All else is fluff. Let each jurisdiction decide for themselves how to pursue the fluff

opinion Role of Government The primary duty of govt is to protect the ownership of private property. John Locke

opinion Shallow logic. The govt assumes burden & non thinkers allow it. People take risks everyday. A utopian context without danger is not possible.

opinion Wise words from a very intelligent economist, professor, and author with uncommon, common sense!

opinion

opinion This post sure brought out all the people who get their ‘research’ from Fox News and Aunt Karen. NEWS FLASH: Other countries are able to open back up because they controlled the virus successfully. We are stuck in lockdown because all you ‘patriots’ keep spreading the virus.

opinion It's a virus. It will wait until the masks are off. You can't hide from a virus. You can treat it. You can get a vaccine. But hiding from it is a joke. Despite the 'experts'. If the hospitals or morgues were ever overrun the vultures in the press would have had lots of pictures.

opinion Society bears a cost for everything you do. That's part of living in a society.

opinion were your veil or else ... hmmm

opinion Goose stepping Nazi SOB!

opinion Also tell people to cover their nose, it’s part of the breathing system. Also masks MAY reduce the risk of infection because the virus is a molecule that can go in with the air you breath,TRUMP BIDEN PELOSI HARRIS OBAMA CLINTON MERKEL JOHNSON... can’t stop it,it’s a Chinese curse

opinion Since masks are mostly useless I would have shut up about them if it weren’t for the lockdowns. The lockdowns are against every principle this country was founded on. It is a disgrace. It was also a hysteria perpetrated by the media and politicians.

opinion

opinion Up yours

opinion Huh...explain Sweden.

opinion So when innocent people are victimized by criminals because idiot politicians let them out of jail, should the politicians bear the cost of their stupid decisions too?

opinion If you don’t get enough oxygen society bears the cost

opinion Lotta people in this thread seemingly cool with 300k+ dead Americans AND a wrecked economy 🤔

opinion This is the most insidious type of propaganda I’ve seen in my lifetime. This mask devotion thing is like a weird cult of crazy hypochondriacs.

opinion Yes. Is necessary when a considerable percentage of the population grow into adulthood age wise, while maintaining the emotional functions of a toddler.

opinion What cost? It’s not at all clear there is one and it would be minute in any case

opinion Propaganda for the 'intelligent ' crowd. 👆mcm_ct

opinion The word of extreme selfish and stupid shoud be dedicated to those people who deny wearing a mask.

opinion Tell that to the “Doctor” who sat in an empty baseball stadium with his mask down.

opinion I would be sick and tired of covering up my face and society dose not bear the cost lol its just your fears what you scared of bares the cost of covid 19 stop blaming on this so called virus

opinion

opinion Sounds like something the British would have said in 1776.

opinion It would be great if we wrote a piece on the published scientific studies supporting that masks prevent the spread of respiratory viruses. Not simulations. That might be convincing. There is a problem with that, the studies say the opposite

opinion Bruh, we already are paying the price regardless if you wear a mask or not. Private, employed citizens got 1200 & increased future tax liabilities while wall street was bailed out & Fed balance sheet ballooned TheArtOfTheDeal

opinion Now do STDs.

opinion Now do obesity.

opinion guess we should forever wear masks cuz even if we defeat Covid there is the flu. Variations of the flu will be with us forever. Seriously though- screw off.

opinion Tough. I don't give a damn if everyone has to pay a price for freedom to choose.
