From WSJopinion: The decline of religious belief in America will cause incalculable spiritual damage, but even nonbelievers should worry about the practical consequences of an increasingly secular U.S., writes Ericka Andersen

Main Street : During a speech at Notre Dame law school on October 11, 2019, Attorney General Bill Barr explained how secularists are assaulting religious freedom in an effort to break down traditional moral values and instead impose their own orthodoxy. Image: Robert Franklin/Associated PressThe decline of religious belief in America will cause incalculable spiritual damage, but even nonbelievers should worry about the practical consequences of an increasingly secular U.S.

“People who are religiously affiliated are more likely to make a charitable donation of any kind, whether to a religious congregation or to another type of charitable organization,” according to a 2017from Giving USA. The organization found that 62% of religious households give to charity, compared with 46% of nonreligious ones. The Almanac of American Philanthropy reports that those who attend religious services regularly give to secular causes at more than double the rate of those who don’t.

opinion I don't think there has been a decline in religious belief. There has been a decline in naivite regarding one size fits all religious doctrine. The public should not be into mind control.

opinion Yeh right. We got those warning in Ireland a couple of decades back also. Ireland is now a far better country to live in, with the role of religion now focusing solely on the individual.

opinion She’s right!

opinion Don’t need religion to be charitable.

opinion New world order

opinion That's some bullshit.

opinion Happy to report there is no spiritual damage here at all in NL - and plenty of charity. And ‘socialist’ healthcare and caring for the poor. We don’t call it church. We call it a secular, civil society.

opinion Your statistics may be skewed. People in their 60s and 70s give more and are more religious. It could simply be that older, financially secure people give more, whereas younger financially insecure (non religious) give less.

opinion The more secular we become the better off we'll be. We don't need to have hope that someone will feed the hungry when we can insure the hungry are fed.

opinion As the secular world contends with how to fill the anticipated void in charitable giving, the real danger is the eternal consequence of ignoring God and rejecting Jesus.

opinion Dribble. This is probably written by somebody who still thinks Mother Teresa is a person to look up to

opinion

opinion Good riddance

opinion Wonder why young people don’t find religion as it’s practiced in the US attractive?

opinion Get your narrative straight… thought religion was fascist if Christian or minority if not but both bad…. Or good ….. or …. Pls tell us how to think again!!!!

opinion Opinion: Charity begins in the heart, not in the temple or the church. Science can be as true a path to spirituality as religion, or truer and with less of the arrogance.

opinion As an atheist I'm inclined to think that there's far too many white 'religious belief' pushers of the 18th century variety that wants to get in my face.

opinion Look at the damage that organized religions cause.

opinion Jesus would not be in favor of Fascism or Capitalism. The WSJ is not a credible source to give an opinion on Jesus.

opinion If you need religion as your moral compass, there’s something fundamentally wrong with you.

opinion already a godless land

opinion Religion isn't why people help people. Humanity is.

opinion This is the laziest and dumbest take I’ve had the displeasure of reading

opinion Why not consider taxes for social welfare the same as tithing? Reframe the issue

opinion AMERICA ON WRONG ROAD,UNDER BIDEN &MARXISTS! AMERICA IS GREATEST COUNTRY in WORLD. UNDER BIDEN we have lost All MORALITY,VALUES, PRINCIPLES,FAMILY,CHRISTIAN VALUES,RESPECT,LAW &ORDER,POLICE,PARENTS AUTHORITY-JUST GOVERNMENT,ALL the TIME! We R losing'SOUL of AMERICA'2 MARXISTS!

opinion Seems to me that 'charity' isn't solely the purview of our churches...or at least, doesn't need to be.

opinion 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 what the actual fck. That is ludicrous. Most people who are non-religious are way more moral than religious people. At least non-religious people don’t need some omnipotent father threatening to punish them to be a good person
