As the New York National Guard including military police moved to Buffalo to help with recovery efforts, many residents were left to fend for themselves and their communities.

After a blizzard left 39 people dead across New York's Erie County, the City of Buffalo announced that New York University will conduct an"after-action report" about the region's response to the storm, according toNYU's Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service will review the storm preparation, response and recovery to outline best practices for other major cities as well as offer Buffalo feedback, according to Brown.

"Nobody would come," Buffalo resident Tayron Knight said when explaining how he got stuck on Niagara Falls Boulevard."I called the police numerous times -- the police told me I was on a waiting list that they couldn't see nobody out." "There were so many calls that emergency services were canceled, you know, there's so many people left helpless, not realizing when they're going to be able to get help," Kless said.

Knight said he was eventually rescued by a friend, after which he began to work with friends and family to coordinate rescues in the absence of emergency services.

What makes NYU qualified to prepare the AAR? This needs to be led by a skilled Emergency Management organization. Universities are notoriously unqualified and political. I should know, I worked in higher education for over 15 years.

Now if we could just get some conservative representative to say something snarky about the deaths like they do when we have tornadoes 🙄💯

Of course, a study is needed to lay blame at the feet of the city and first responders for not providing reliable transportation and heat for residents creating havoc, looting, and destroying everything in their path.

10 million dollar scholarly article and academic research suggest Buffalo may face stow storms and chaos every year, during that mysterious period called Winter!

This is sad. So many scenarios that went wrong.

So when are the Republicans going to do something about inflation and the border

Pity that they didn’t prepare a bit better for something that happens every few years

I'm hoping that NYU investigates why Buf TV station WGRZ tweeted false road conditions throughout the blizzard showing no snow and clear visibility. The misleading pic was tweeting about 6x in 4 days. I wonder how many people believed the lie and drove into danger.

cold kills more than the heat

Most died on the east side. Not a nice area at all…

Maybe if people weren't out looting in the middle of the storm, the death toll could have been decreased.

This isn't new! People just don't listen. Not the city's fault.

Wow

No shit. People need to be self-dependent. Always thinking someone else is going to help them needs to stop. People need to man up and learn to survive.
