Guard Wade Taylor IV, right, and Texas A&M enter the NIT title game in New York having won 11 of their last 12.Texas A&M spent Wednesday night in New York City submerged in sweet dreams of winning a National Invitation Tournament title.

Here are some numbers A&M fans will appreciate: The Aggies , who have won 11 of their last 12, will face Xavier at 6 p.m. Thursday in the NIT title game in Madison Square Garden. Not that it mattered at that point. Those who don’t know the bespectacled, brainiac Williams were surprised he would go to so much trouble for a lost cause. Those who know him best simply added the report to their pile.

“I’m more aware of it now than maybe five or 10 years ago,” he said of keeping all the integers in check. “Some of it is we meet as a staff for 45 minutes a day just talking about the ‘big rocks’ of that particular day. Who’s doing what, why are we doing it, are there ways to do it better. “To keep them on the other side,” Taylor explained. “A lot goes into it, but it’s worth it in the end when you get that win.”

So, it was “41 percent, 41 percent” time and again leading to the Razorbacks showdown. Williams has grown to realize his statistics-based approach doesn’t work the same on every player and each athlete needs his own — you guessed it — number of numbers to deal with.
