The NRCC raised $19.4 million in March, a record haul for the House GOP campaign arm bolstered by nearly $10 million in transfers from party leadership.

The NRCC nearly doubled its previous fundraising record for the month of March, $11.6 million in 2020, and entered April with a whopping $94.7 million in cash on hand, also nearly doubling the size of its war chest from two years ago at the same point in the election cycle. The committee’s unprecedented fundraising was made possible in part by a transfer of $4.8 million from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

The California Republican is in line to be elected speaker if the GOP wins the House majority in November. House Minority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana and House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik of New York also funneled campaign cash to the NRCC in March, $4 million and $1 million, respectively, helping the committee close out the first quarter of the election year with a fundraising bang.

“Republicans have the resources, the candidates and the message needed to retake the majority,” Minnesota Rep. Tom Emmer, the NRCC chairman, said in a statement. “A special thank you to Leader Kevin McCarthy, Whip Steve Scalise, Conference Chair Elise Stefanik and the hundreds of thousands of generous donors who continue to support our efforts.”The NRCC raised more money in January, February, and March than in any previous first quarter, raking in $40.9 million during the three-month period.

House Republicans are roughly a handful of seats shy of the majority, and nonpartisan political handicappers say their chances of reclaiming the speaker’s gavel are high. Meanwhile, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee raised $21.3 million in March and entered this month with $113.2 million in the bank.Democrats might be on the defensive, but the DCCC continues to outpace the NRCC on the fundraising front, with the House Democratic campaign arm finishing the first quarter with a $52.4 million haul.
