Should we be doing drills on how not to get car jacked? Seems like that’s a much bigger issue statistically.
You mean like tornado or nuclear bomb drills? Same exact concept that most adults in the US have grown up with, this is just their version.

The amount of bizarre routines Americans have to through, simply because they've decided that everyone must be able to kill everyone else at a distance is staggering.
1) the odds of any one school having a shooting are very low 2) school shooters are unpredictable and there is no way to plan for every scenario 3) almost all school shootings had security that didn't prevent/help 3) shooters learn from the drills 4) drills traumatize children

Because it gives them a real insight into the world they live in instead of the disneyfied sugar coated version theyvare being sold? THAT is only harm. 'Wow. The world isn't a perfectly safe place for people like me!'
They need to practice for reality ffs. They’re not going to be worrying about no mental health if an actual shooting happens. We can talk about gun control if you want but for the time being prepare for the evil that exists
No no -- America's gun obsession harms the mental health of students, their parents, and anyone who goes out in public. NRA nuts argue freedom; we're not free while they brainwash us into believing these kinds of drills are 'normal' for children

We're terrifying are children because our government refuses to protect them! When I was growing up it was earthquake drills that never actually happened, no cops in school & parents taught their children to respect their teachers. Not perfect but better than this!

Another point, which my son explained (!)-- Drills assume terrorist-assassin is an outside adult. Many of the shooting situations involve student killers from the same school, so they know exactly what to do from drill. Chilling but true.
How did the nuclear “duck and cover” practice affect those children? But then there weren’t kids carrying nukes into class.
Common sense gun control and mental health rehabilitation sounds like a nice alterna
