Former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows was a member of the administration on Jan. 6, and that could allow some immunity based on executive privilege which prevents the disclosure of certain presidential documents and records.

Jan 6 defines exception to the privilege

This was an attempted coup, how in the hell can there executive privilege? This is BS!!

Hey, NPR, executive privilege belongs to the Office which is occupied by Biden.

We're from his former district. He's slimy; he'll try to slither out of it.

Could we all just agree that, when it comes to plotting to overturn election results in order to install the loser as winner, there is no protection for presidential documents or records, CERTAINLY no executive privilege, no protection for seditionists. PERIOD.

Hiding a film memory of their insurrection easier on the compromised.

You know you’re guilty. When you have something to hide. When you don’t want people to see what you’ve done.

No. Our country first

Immunity does not apply to acts of Sedition, executive privilege or not.

Nixon lost Executive Privilege claims protecting him from submitting subpoenaed documents in Nixon Vs US,1974 SCOTUS ruling. If a former President like Nixon had to comply, why shouldn’t Meadows have to comply? Jan 6 was the largest siege of the Capitol since 1812 & needs answers

Executive privilege is intended to protect national security - not criminal executives.

This country is getting more corrupt by the minute wtf we gonna end up a 3rd world country soon if this keeps up.

So as long as we have a plan to overthrow our entire government, the government is ok with that if you have executive privilege. LMAO, what an absurd joke this country is, the more we learn about it's truth and how it protects certain people vs criminalizes others.

These same games were played just prior to the last civil war. I say the last one because it seems we are not done...

Number 13. How much more clear can it get?

Because no it doesn't.

He’s a failure and shouldn’t be in a leadership role. He is not to be trusted

So inmunity to the sedition, domestic terrorism, and attempt to initiate a coup and overthrow the government. Or what Republicans like to call a “patriot.”

Its hard to get past this man. An attempt at a coup should null and void any protections. Some in Congress have used advance knowledge to scam SEC and do insider trading, others using privilege to cover up crimes. all bets should be off when 'coup' is intended outcome.

mark is probably on the phone telliing somebody he has nothing to hide.

I guess our country really doesn’t have a playbook for dealing with treason from the prior administration so is winging it? I think it’s an injustice to our democracy to not see it for what it is and not act appropriately to make sure justice is served. 🤔🤨😷🇺🇸

Lauren Boebert and Margaret Taylor Greene should be sued by Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (and any others who were slandered, defamed, libeled) for $millions! Boebert and Greene are disgusting trolls and should be removed from public service. I AM ‘ NOT AMUSED. SOW ‘ REAP!

Congress says otherwise; the president says otherwise; and by asserting jurisdiction and then taking months or years to decide political matters, federal courts are obstructing Congress from governing and oh by the way enabling fascism.

Depends on what they have on meadows. He's pretty fucking dirty

Executive Privilege is intended to protect the office and the nation. Not the individual criminals. This is all how democracy ends and authoritarianism rises.

The press should be demanding access to this information and figuring out how to get to it. Not “explaining” why government isn’t held accountable. WTF

If your aim is to piss people off, I wouldn't tout brilliance when it works.

If you have a president who plots a coup d'etat and then can hide behind executive privilege for the rest of his life you have a formula for dictatorship.

Only zealots still care about this story

Except Biden waived the privilege

Executive privilege doesn’t apply to communications where a crime is being committed & laws are being broken. It also doesn’t apply to political campaigns & Jan 6th was promoted as a campaign event, not an official WH event

In a criminal offense I would think you would have to answer questions under oath or go to jail til you do. I can't believe that we are letting criminals off the hook. If our laws are this ineffectual they need to be changed.

NPR Cookie Consent and ChoicesWhy can't she be covered or even advanced on the basis of her qualifications or merit, instead of skin color or gender? The media's obsession on identity politics is tiresome, insufferable, and ultimately disrespectful of individual achievement. She seems qualified. Great job. Also I think a bunch of whiny people who can’t read or think for themselves would like it if a white man would have been nominated you would have said “he would be the forty eighth White man to hold the director job.” So Tanden would have gotten the position but Manchin was but hurt about her making fun of him!? This timeline is so weird. “Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia said he would oppose Tanden's nomination, a first real sign of a weakening of Tanden's chances.”
