Always going to be disappointments in any election. To dig at this, though? News? Is this raising awareness about issues that need to be addressed? Hope it's not the latter. How about an article on Wu hoping to work with all communities? Wouldn't that be newsworthy?

johnlansing

Yeah because the cities are doing so well, have fun in Detroit people

Hmph…showcasing your racism towards Asians there NPR?🙄

Ya know, supporting one race over other races is racist. You supported an anti white and anti male narrative to push your agenda but when an Asian Female won all you could talk about is how you wished she was black woman. Racist.

White supremism wins again hahaha

NPR, leading the charge for the Race War. Good job.

If Boston wants a black mayor so badly we'd be happy to give you Eric Adams.

Shame on you NPR!!!

oh shit, they elected a wrong color, NPR be like

The most racist people in the U.S. are Democrats. This is not the first example and won't be the last.

Here's an idea: vote for the best candidate regardless of color. Democrats don't understand this.

What a sad state of affairs. Liberals/Democrats have such an opportunity to grow their base after the disaster that was the Trump administration and beyond and this is what they’re focused on? You’re wasting a golden opportunity

Strike 2. This is a very strange way to congratulate Boston's first women, first Asian mayor.

The state of Massachusetts voted for Obama TWICE, and voted Deval Patrick for governor TWICE! It's not racism that an Asian-American woman beat African-American candidates for mayor of Boston. You want to win an election? - Be a Better Candidate!

It's been incredibly sad to see NPR descend into the gutter alongside commercial media outlets. Boston elected a WOC to be their mayor. THAT is the story.

I have no idea why I'm supposed to feel bad that an Asian was elected mayor instead of a black. Are blacks better people than Asians? Maybe NPR can explain that to me. And then explain why both are better than whites.

This is a disturbing article, given the uptick in black-on-Asian attacks, attempts to lump Asians and whites together vs. people of color, and even Chappelle's joke about anti-Asian violence and COVID-19 tropes...

It's literally a picture of a black woman crying why are you like this?

Just now seeing this what the fuck is wrong with you?

This is just wrong too. It’s your whole thought process.

Nah. The tweet it still bad. Delete and try again

Isn’t this a bit racist?

so no celebration of a Asian female being elected for the first time in the position? Sounds a little racist to me

Its a funny kind of diversity when you exclude people of color that aren't black. That actually doesn't sound like diversity to me.

So Do you think Asian is not American? Not right representive for minority people. Shame on you NPR

I would say Asian Americans should be the minority group who is concerned about representation. Look at racial breakdown of democrats in congress. Black politicians have a much larger number than any other minority.

The fact that black activists were only concerned with a black candidate winning tells me they don't care who the BEST person is for the job. They only care that the winner is black. Isn't that racist? They don't even seem pleased it's another minority.

please do better, why was this picture of former Boston Mayor Janey during her Farewell Address used when it isn’t reflective of your poorly revised Article Title? This is clearly clickbait.

what???

Misrepresenting is just one word to describe it. Your headlines have misrepresented many stories over the past 5 years. Is there someone who writes the headlines/tweets apart from the journalist in charge? If so, y'all need to up your standards, NPR. Many of us expect better.

Your tweet was quoted in an article by Post

NPR didn’t get the headline right either the second time around. Asian-Americans is at the very bottom of the totem poll to organizations like them. Thankfully, sesamestreet got it right this week. Both are publicly funded. Make of that what you will.

Well considering they’re 13% of the population I think they have more than their share of mayors. Nobody wins more than black people and that’s why I am no longer a Democrat.

We’re all waiting for your 3rd attempt at getting this right npr. It’s just not that hard to not eff this up, unless you’re actually anti-Asian, anti-merit and anti-democracy.

What on earth...? Do you guys ever reflect on what you're saying? Why are you so hellbent on deepening the racial divide?

Perhaps you should stop covering candidates based on skin color when they should be covered according to substance, merit, policy. Skin color and race are irrelevant.

This is an improvement?

2/2 Conversely it could be said that the candidates of non-color only got about a quarter of the vote in the areas with the highest concentration of people of color.

Boston did elect its first woman mayor. Why not report the facts instead of spinning and providing and editorial. So now the elected woman win is already questioned by NPR - nice. MSM never satisfied with the small gains. Worse then corporate America.

This reductive photo shows Janey as an unprofessional crying poor sport

NPR = National Promoters of Racism

This was indeed a horrible, horrible tweet. I can it believe this came out of NPR

I can’t wait for y’all to ask me for a donation. -Asian American.

And I thought 'They're lithium' was the worst attempt at a correction

What? You can't just make people elect a black person for 'muh equality', look past race for once and see the new mayor as someone who was elected for merit, not race.

NPR, Stop asia hate

“We previously posted a racist tweet so instead we deleted it to post an even more racist tweet”

extraordinary

The Internet is forever

Why is there so much focus on race? Your basic argument that electability, or one’s “right” to be elected is based, in any way or fashion, on their race, is…. Inherently racist.

💩npr

I don't understand how the current title, 'Why Boston will need to wait longer for its 1st elected Black mayor' is an improvement. You're implying that electing an Asian American woman is somehow less progressive than electing a black person? Please explain covertracism

one of the people 'cried their eyes out'? 😳 over the mayor?

Isn’t this racist

Normal people are just hoping to have a competent, uncorrupt mayor. That will be determined in the coming months. Meanwhile, racists are just gunning for their respective tribes.

Npr has some racist libs on staff - defund this trash

Is this the racist headline or the replacement? It still seems racist. Does the new mayor of Boston have a name? Do you care?

Idiots.

Interesting timing. Instead of discuss this after primary.

Love that passive sentence…. Apparently many were not hopeful…😳

Stop digging

Yeah, could imagine someone getting elected on their own merit? Right, doesn't fit your agenda.

Sanctified racial discrimination is a delicacy. Be cool if many a member of the so-called 4th estate would stop acting like false priests/prophets serving whatever establishment ideological Molech of the moment. The only 'supremacists' I have observed so far in the last 5 years.

NPR is the worst.

White, Black, Yellow, Green. Competent ?

everything is about race I guess

Omg writing this angle sounds very white supremacy-ish. You know, when u pit one race against the other? What is your intention here? If the reverse happened- A AfAm won, would u interview Asian voters to express their views? NPR, here you go,'dismantling journalism' again🤦‍♀️.

Maybe don't get a white woman to speak on racial issues and this wouldn't happen?

How about we elect the best person for the job regardless of race.

OUR TAXES FUND THIS PROPAGANDA AND DIVISION TACTICS.

What the fuck is this shitty article and post. Delete this

Liberals don't fuck with Asians. Neither do Conservatives.

Is NPR racist? NPR is not happy that Michelle Wu is the new Boston mayor. Imagine if the new mayor was a Native American person. NPR would move to Europe...🤣

Which way western woke man?

Maybe the thing to learn from the 2021 campaign season is that NPR is more racist than I thought

Shame on you CityOfBoston for not using skin color as a basis for your voting decision! Such ignorance should not be allowed in this day and age!

I guess it’s all about skin color and credentials are just a bonus

We realize we don't always get things right the first time, and our previous tweet/headline misrepresented the story. We deleted the previous tweet, which was causing harm, and have updated the story
