I haven't encountered this situation yet, but my plan is to tell the truth: I wear a mask to protect other people, even the a-holes who don't deserve it.
I say, 'I've a heart condition & kidney disease for 15 years now.' It has never gone past that; but I could add, 'My lungs were permanently scarred after my third congestive heart failure. I do not have luxury of risking catastrophic multi-organ collapse again.' Scarred much?

That's an insanely easy answer. I tell them it's because I'm American and I don't remember my forefathers crying about taking Polio and Typhoid and Smallpox vaccines, they trusted the science and the science was 100 years behind what it is today, and guess what, I'm still here.

Not been asked about it. But also don't really live in a place where people would ask. Some people don't wear it and that is their choice. It really does not bother me. But I don't think you should go against the rules. Masks are not oppression.
I stopped listening to npr the day Trumpelstiltskin was elected. They report outrageous news with a studied indifference that ignores the dire state of reality. In my head: “my dudes, civilization it crumbling!!” Them: “think piece on pecan crumble cake at the top of the hour.”
Just tell them my doctor recommended I wear one until my TB test comes back. They will immediately practice social distancing.

Some dude kept asking me in line at the grocery store why I was bothering to wear a mask. I ignored him until he started to get close to me and I put my hand up and said “we don’t have to talk about this.” And that was kind of it.
I believe that the strong should protect the weak. I wear a mask to protect others who’s health is too weak to receive the vaccine, or too weak to fight the disease if they catch it.

I’m a veteran. Got more vaccinations than I can remember. It was my military duty. Got vaccinated against COVID and still wear my mask in public because it’s my civic duty. I’m protecting myself, my family, and others, especially my grandchildren who cannot yet be vaccinated.
I’ve been Karen’d twice for not wearing a mask.. once while walking to my car where I just took my mask off exiting the store.. and once while sitting on a park bench alone reading.. those that ask why you are wearing a mask are equally dumb.

I have no patience left. I would say that I believe in the survival of the fittest and in this case it means the smartest.

I don't think anybody has ever asked me. I'd probably just ignore the question if they did, or maybe say i will be wearing the mask forever.
For me it's a way of letting unmasked people know I'm a better person then they are and that I follow the science.
