The Texas court system is signaling it will no longer enforce a federal order aimed at stopping evictions during the pandemic. That could clear the way for landlords to push ahead with tens of thousands of eviction cases.

Hoh-Lee-Sh*BLEEP*t 😳! I ask: “why didn’t those who implemented this, do so without a failsafe, exit plan or grace period”? Was this designed to be a lesson to renters & landlords about “maintaining savings/financial stability”? So...what happens next?

I have struggled like most during this pandemic but still paid rent and other bills. I did without and sold some of my possessions to pay bills. I got behind and caught back. Life is not fair or free.

Profit over People.

TEXIT can't come soon enough.

We should all live rent/mortgage free? 🤔

This just in Texas refuses to allow one person suffer while others benefit. Texas decides to go back to normal and make people responsible for their decisions again and allows landlords to pay back the banks they mortgaged from. Ohhh the horror!

PROPOSITION B NOW THIS QUIT IT TEXAS

Landlords have bill too, a landlord is not always a wealthy company. Many times the owner of a rental property has a mortgage on the property that they are renting.

WTH GregAbbott_TX ? Why are you punishing Texas residents still trying to survive the pandemic?

You have entered late stage capitalism. May the odds be forever in your favor.

So what? Evictions don't mean that you actually have to move out.

Try old Abbott was an ass

Well, what else can we expect from a Republican governor & Republican-controlled state legislature who let their constituents freeze to death because of policies that put energy profits ahead of public health & safety. Just to be contrarian to the Democrat who won the election.

Why does it seem like Texas doesn't like it's residents

Maybe if landlords don't have sufficient cash to handle a pandemic they should be banned from renting to anyone? Seems like they should have been better prepared.

Texas continues to be on the wrong side of history. It’s like they purposely crap on their lawn and turn around to step in it.

Pure evil

Attention Texas you need to stop calling your state great you are not even mediocre or pathetic just a GOP cesspool.

If you live in Texas and voted Republican you allowed this behavior to manifest. Good luck 🤞🏼

Finally! These landlords have been forced to continue making mortgage payments, paying for maintenance and utilities while not receiving rent payments from their tenants. How long was this supposed to continue?

chartreuseb Send in the guard... oh wait. Texas is the snow hurt us folks.. had to be saved by national guard, money and Aoc as Cruz left his doggie at home to try to escape to the beach. Bunch of rich gop oil phonies.

I'm gonna not take your word or 'reporting' and look into this. Cause you lie and play tricks with words. defundNPR

Look into how many landlords are out there compared to corporations that have bought up houses like crazy. It's the private equity firms who are driving up the cost of housing by buying houses cash on hand. When you look at the numbers it's staggering

exposeHATE4PROFIT time to DefundFASCISTS and ALL who support them. Accountability is key in 2021!!

They are just mean and I guess want to see many more homelessness in their state. 'Let's see how many people's lives we can ruin' is Greg Abbott and his lackeys motto.

Bad idea.

This has been going on around the country for months. Landlords are getting money from the relief bills and evicting anyway. NONE of the relief bills were designed to help renters, only landlords.

In related news, while pretending to care about people by forcing landlords to delay evictions until July 1, not a single member of congress did a thing to shut down Experian, Equifax, TransUnion or FICO. You'll still get evicted and your credit score will be ruined.

There has to be a fair way that helps renters and landlords. It seems many property owners have been left high and dry with the current conditions

Apparently Christian conservatives of the most heartless people in the world and only care about money and not the people that have elected them to protect them.

And they thought immigrants were a crisis? About to find out what a real crisis is.

Truly so. Landlords need rent money! They too have bills to pay, mortgages/insurance/taxes/property taxes/insurance/repairs. This is a lose/lose situation. People need housing, jobs, income. Landlords need theirs too.

I live in Texas and while I don't agree with most of what our so-called leadership does, I do agree with this. We've been open up for months, unemployment rate has gone down and jobs are aplenty.

So they're saying TX citizens should take the law into their own hands and defend against eviction attempts?

No state seems to enjoy systemically killing off its own citizens more than Texas.

thanks to this administration they already ended poverty

Yes, landlord are the problem, totally.

There might be a galactic federation IRL and maybe they are following general order 1(from Star Trek)

They can use all that stimulus and increased/extended unemployment to pay their bills instead of blowing it on bad habits and recreation.

Hey GregAbbott_TX You seen this ?!?!?

The wealthy ALWAYS get their way. To pretend otherwise is a fools errand. 🇺🇸

Oh how I wish I lived in Texas...

this will be devastating to children. and babies. “pro life”.

NPR Cookie Consent and ChoicesEven though Arradondo knew Chauvin had committed murder while the others watched, they weren’t arrested. Because police unions protect and shuffle homicidal cops the same way that the church does child raping clerics. And that’s why Chauvin was so confident of no consequences. Hoping one day someone will have the conman sense to tell the black community to stop breaking laws, be respectful and cooperative when dealing with police.
