In director Marielle Heller's 'A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,' Tom Hanks deepens Fred Rogers from a man-child with a prankish sense of humor into a healer whose struggles with his own demons, our reviewer writes.

You know the internet is broken when NPR is posting click-bait, garbage headlines.

He never came off as a 'man child' to me. Just a really kind man who loved singing and teaching me stuff.

An alleged pervert playing an alleged pervert. Bravo to casting!!!!

I wasn't sure I wanted to see this bc how can any movie top the firsthand experience of seeing the real Fred Rogers, but knowing the director of 'Can you ever forgive me?' also directed this makes me want to, now. Director is psychologically astute. I trust her to do a good job.

Daniel Tiger did not like Rogers controlling ways.

Maybe it's Tom Hank's creepy 'Hello Naybuh'?😂 Mr. Rodgers was softspoken - not CREEPY like Hanks!😷

Then this review made me cry! Beautiful article, can’t wait to see the movie.

This is a terrible lede.

Never in my heart would I put Fred Rogers and demons in the same sentence despite two clauses and opposing points. Fred Rogers was the ultimate preacher of good citizenry

It was wonderful.

Who the f*ck wrote this god-awful lead? Fred Rogers did not need “deepened (lol)” by Tom Hanks.

Mr. Rogers was never a man child....

Mr. Rogers is not a man-child, he was a saint! We grew up w/Mr. Roger's show & he truly touched our hearts. He's a man of deep faith, & he held an even deeper faith about helping children grow & cope w/this difficult, cruel, sinful world. God broke the mold when he created Fred.

Whomever wrote this headline and the article it accompanies mustn't know who anything about Rogers. A manchild with a prankish sense of humor? What...?

Man-child?

Shouldn't this read '...who struggles with his own demons,'

Never, ever thought of Mister Rogers is a man-child. And who out there wasn't already aware of his inner struggles? Only the most under-educated and ignorant individuals! That said, it's good to see his story being told in appropriate fashion.

If a woman directed it, critics will give it great reviews.

Heading to first screening this morning.
