Utah has become the 19th — and most conservative — state in the U.S. to ban the widely discredited practice of LGBTQ 'conversion therapy' for minors. The new rule took effect late Tuesday.

Basically, minors cannot attend / go to therapy that helps 'convert' their gender. This should be a step in the right direction for mitigating judgement from people as youth, and could possibly aide in different mental discrepancies. whereseveryoneelse NNHubS

The ban doesn't apply to clergy, religious counselors, parents or grandparents. In the most corrupt state for teen residential treatment programs this would never be passed unless it had loopholes to protect the TTI and the profits it generates for Utah eyeswideshut

Conversion therapy is cruel & archaic. It’s about time states ban this. You can’t torture someone to change their sexuality.

Is “conversion therapy” a real thing or are you just making it up? What do they do, whip them with a cat-o-nine-tails until the kid is straight?

Let parents raise their children, not the government.

And now will go federal

Good news to say the least. If individuals can’t cope with the prospects that their child could be LGBTQ or potentially have a lifelong disability, then they shouldn’t be a parent to begin with. You should love your child for they are and not who you want them to be. 🙏

Finally something good in Utah! I live in SLC Utah

I can’t believe this travesty was going on so long. This the most unAmerica and unChristian practice.

Outstanding. Moving the bar back to where this stain on humanity will be a distant memory

Thank God. The real God, not the one used as a weapon.

So can anyone educate me on what exactly conversion therapy is I’m assuming not electro shock or anything

Good job Utah👊🏼

Texas will be one of the last states to pass this. Come on, Texas! Can we at least beat Oklahoma, Missouri, Alabama, and Mississippi? That’s probably the best we can hope for. :(

Gay

This is a very important key point. Conversion therapy is basically still allowed as long as you’re a parent or a religious authority. At best conversion therapy centers will replace some of their staff with clergy.

There is nothing wrong with the LGBTQ community; they are healthy. It is societal religiosity that is toxic.

If we tolerate this morons then let's forget about our future generation

A win for The progress of mental health therapy...👍

but how will minors get better?

Good move. Here's hoping hormonal therapy for minors is next.

Already? It's only just 2020... Better late than never, I guess.

It's insane that this is still legal anywhere. Barbaric. Good job, Utah. 👬👭❤🏳️‍🌈

There are only 19 states that have banned it? What on earth are the other 31 doing?

I’ve smoked so much weed in Utah

*Partial Ban

These bans should be nationwide. I hate how one state can be complete shit and another paradise for LGBT people.

It's good, but there shouldn't be exceptions for clergy and/or religious representatives. They're arguably the worst participants of the archaic practice. 😕

BGUMC feels the same. We are an open and welcoming church. Please join us!! We we welcome all!! ❤❤

19th. Utah is ahead of 31 other states. Utah.

Hallelujah!!! Now if only Utah would stop voting against its own best interests!!! 🤦‍♀️

EXCEPT the law doesn’t ban clergy ... and the Mormons in Utah are the primary issue in Utah so the ban didn’t accomplish anything.

Now if they’ll refrigerate craft beer we’ll be getting somewhere.

Utah is the most conservative? The 2016 election suggests otherwise.

Utah? U rock!

It's kind of sad that it's only 19 states. It should be 50

“WHAT?!”

Here is to hoping that if a state that traditionally has such right wing in the closet beat you down thinking in it can launch itself skyward at a rocket pace the rest of the country can too! Go UTAH!

Our current Vice President advocated providing federal funding to this kind of therapy when he ran for Congress in 2000.

What do they do now? Make them work the gold mine?

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

A step in the right direction. Better late than never.

vprnet Nice. Now do the same for transitioning minors.

CookieMarten not to rain on the parade but so they can still send their kids to pray away the gay camps

It’s hard to believe that any parent could send their children for conversion therapy. Some people should just not be parents😢😡

🌈 ❤️

Congratulations Utah!

Oh America, 50 years backwards on everything, are the boomers dying off quicker than we hoped

Someone should tell Mr VP

Lol Utah

Good for them

Thank you Utah 💙💙

This doesn’t surprise me in the least. We have to be patient and let the old school crowd die off before we’ll see any real momentum on this, unfortunately.

llmunro NebraskaMegan holy Toledo look what Utah passed!

'.... Until the church reverses the law'

Finally stopped punishing children for the way God made them

Didn’t know you had it in you Utah! Great job!

Who is still practicing and preaching conversion therapy bunch of idiots .

unkauth utah quickly becoming a cool state

Progmos tryna take down the empire of Zion

Does that mean...they’ll vote Democratic

Awesome 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Maybe we can just have a Federal law that says its illegal(and illogical) to try and torture the gay out of someone? Duh

Amazing! Hopefully this will help the suicide rate go down; I think they have the highest among LGBTQ youth?

Wow! Did not expect that. Maybe there is hoe for Alberta after all.

Here's LGBT conversion therapy: sex is only for procreation. Wiring reset.

Any negative comment from Brother Mike Pence or 'Mother?'

Thank you Utah!

You act like this is a win but all it will do is lead to child abuse and more suicide. When has the government banning something ever worked out? Remember when they banned drugs? NPR is transparently partisan trash.

Laws against torturing people are good. We are only a century behind in our thinking.
