The second-ranked Golden Eagles held firm as Simon sat the side down in order to clinch a 4-2 victory over third-ranked Helena in today’s Class 6A Championship at Signature Field in Oxford’s Choccolocco Park. “It was stressful, but we all had faith in each other,” Stiles said. “We knew our pitcher would get it done and she knew we’d make plays behind her. We had full faith in each other.”
Trailing 4-1 heading into the sixth inning, Helena was able to cut the lead in half once more as Ezekiel scored Holliday on a groundout. The Huskies left four runners stranded between the fourth and sixth innings and were shut down in the final innings by Simon on consecutive strikeouts and a fly ball.
