Netflix's limited series about the life of Colin Kaepernick has cast the NFL quarterback and activist's adopted parents., a six-episode series created by Kaepernick and AvaDuVernay. Parker will play Teresa and Rick Kaepernick, Colin's adoptive parents.
Michael, meanwhile, will play Colin as a high schooler. The series will examine Kaepernick's upbringing as a Black teenager in a white adopted family while becoming a star quarterback and laying the groundwork for his present-day activism. Kaepernick will serve as the show's narrator. Kaepernick made headlines in 2016 when, during his time playing for the San Francisco 49ers, he began kneeling during the playing of the national anthem as a protest against racial injustice and police brutality. His actions eventually became a political issue during that year's presidential campaign; Donald Trump urged NFL owners to cut players who protested during the anthem.
He hasn't played in the league since 2016 and in 2017 filed a grievance against the NFL and team owners alleging they had blackballed him. The two sides reached a confidential settlement in 2019, and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said over the summer he would"encourage" a team to sign the QB as a free agent.
Sounds extremely boring.
