Public health officials in Rockland County, New York, issued subpoenas with expensive fines attached to force people connected to a coronavirus cluster to speak with contact tracers

Public health officials in Rockland County, New York issued subpoenas with expensive fines attached to force party-goers connected to a coronavirus cluster to speak with contact tracers.

Rockland County Health Commissioner Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert said county officials issued the subpoenas after the party-goers, all young adults in their 20s, attended a large party in Clarkstown on June 17.The host of the party had Covid-19 symptoms but held the party anyway, leading to the infection of eight attendees to date, Ruppert said. After identifying the cluster, contact tracers reached out to those who attended the party to try to get information on who they interacted with and where they have since been in an attempt to stop the virus from spreading. But several party-goers refused to help these efforts, Ruppert said."Most people do cooperate with us, but for the smaller number that do not, they have hung up on us. (They have) given us very small amounts of information and then refused to give anything further. (They) have told us they do not want to nor need to provide information," Ruppert told CNN.Read MoreUS hits another bleak coronavirus milestone while FDA chief is 'cautiously optimistic' about finding vaccine"So we got to the point where, since the information is essential, I needed to send eight subpoenas yesterday to obtain the required information for our contact investigations."The subpoenas were punishable by up to $2,000 in fines per day, she said. All eight recipients have already responded."It worked," she said.Rockland County Executive Ed Day said six people responded Wednesday and two people responded Thursday."It's amazing how smart some people got," he told CNN."Everybody is complying and helping us, which is all that we're trying to have happen, is work with us. We're not looking to be punitive here."The drastic legal maneuvers provide a glimpse into the ongoing difficulties of carrying out contact tracing measures during the coronavirus pandemic. Experts have said that a combination of rapid testing, contact tracing and quarantining the sick can keep coronavirus from spreading through a community.Rockland County similarly used subpoenas to contain a measles outbreak in 2018-19 that led to 312 confirmed cases, Ruppert said. Why contact tracing matters'use strict';CNN.Videx=CNN.Videx || August 4 coronavirus news

The coronavirus pandemic has brought countries to a standstill. In many places, as countries reopen, Covid-19 cases are on the rise. Follow here for the latest.

Good. They should sue and sue and sue. This is not legal in any way. Ppl committing actual crimes in NY are given Mets tickets but these ppl get fines? It was the protests dummies. Case closed. Journalism once in awhile please. Now do protesters 🙃 When the Constitution was written, the power of the President was limited & all power given to Congress. Although, the president does head up the Cabinet, which is made up of 15 departments; This power was only given to the president in order to carry out the wishes of Congress.

What about the protesters?! Should've called their party a 'protest'. No tracing required 'Nothing disturbs me more than the glorification of stupidity.' - Carl Sagan. Pure evil What refreshing news that while it is the only stretch of the Hudson River Valley west shore twixt Bear Mountain and NYC we haven't explored along the back roads, it reinforces we didn't miss anything & in as much as we love NY, when a vaccine arrives, it's back across the pond!

'who refused Covid-19 contact tracing' Violation of HIPPA, and numerous privacy laws. It will collapse the moment someone challenges it. But then again, NY is run entirely by democrats, so maybe not. They have proven that the narrative is more important than rights. Sad it has come to a $2000 fine. Says a lot about some people who won’t wear mask or stay away from crowds. In a civilized society, sometkmes we have to do things we don’t like—NOBODY LIKES the masks! Compassionate ppl will wear one. Grow up ppl...tired of selfish ppl whining.

Now show me where these officials issued the same threat of a fine to any protesters or rioters. You have a job ready for your socialist tactics in China, or Russia. As an American, you should be ashamed. Yea this is high bullshit Fight the government in court. The government would lose. You do not have to agree to contact tracing.

So a few can’t party 🤔. But thousands can protest with no consequences Incredible how CNN simply ignores the tens of thousands of BLM protesters. Like it just did t happen. Imagine how difficult tracing would be if everyone just left their phone at home.... Unless of course they were out turning over cop cars and burning down business for Social Change

Fu*k any part of New York! Based on what authority You mean like how subpoenas forced people to testify before congress? MAGATS Progressives LOVE pushing people around. The same people giving 'swerlies' to the little kid in high school are the same ones doing contact tracing. Sounds very big brotherish. Too bad subpoenas have no meaning anymore

Counter sue these rat bastards for extortion. If I did not get sick , I would not be reporting either. Do not abuse fellow Americans this way. Many records are being falsified as Covid 19 death just for the cash bounties paid to the health officials who record them. CORRUPTION! Individual rights vs the rights of the masses. If a person can refuse a mask and put others at risk day after day it’s obvious to me that the masses have no rights. Common decency. Common sense. Working together. It shouldn’t be so hard. Too bad there’s no leadership in America.

Contact tracing is not mandatory. The potential bad for the government to possess that kind of information far outweighs its good. My joke of day on why people are not wearing masks. Every party attendee needs to stamp trump on theitr forehead so hospitals know who to bill, blame and sue NYC's contact tracers have been told not to ask people if they've attended a protest via businessinsider

entire communities currently not recognised under Israeli planning would be at high risk of 'forcible transfer'. Palestine People invoking constitutional rights re Covid-19 are the problem, allowing it to spread and thrive. Covid-19 has nothing to with citizenry rights. It attacks as it sees fit - as long as it can carry from one living body to another. Keep distance and/or put on a mask.

Where were all the subpoenas for the rioters, looters, thugs, and protestors? They are the REAL criminals. Socialist Democrats will go after families getting together. Voters this is ONLY going to get worse if Joe Biden is elected. Contact tracing is the new Nazi numbered tattoo.

New York City won’t start counting absentee ballots for another weekDon’t hold your breath waiting for final results in the close congressional and Assembly primaries in NYC. The process of counting absentee ballots won’t begin for another week no rush. just don’t fudge the count like Florida did...and still DOES. ugh, why so slow

New York attorney general announces $19 million settlement in Harvey Weinstein lawsuitsAn agreement has been reached to settle for nearly $19 million two sexual misconduct lawsuits on behalf of multiple women against imprisoned former Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, attorneys said on Tuesday. DanWhitcomb laws don't apply to rich people. they just make less profit for a quarter.

New York City Leaders Approve Austere Budget, Police CutsMayor Bill de Blasio and the New York City Council approved an $88.19 billion budget for the coming fiscal year that drastically cuts city spending while shifting nearly $1 billion in funding from the New York Police Department to youth and social services. Cutting police spending while a riot is going on. Smart Communists at play.... This has to stop fast.... Do budgets matter in govt anymore? They will just sstral money from one fund and give to another

New York City Council approves $1-billion cut to NYPDThe New York City Council has approved a plan to shift $1 billion from police to education and social services in the fiscal year starting Wednesday. How about cutting funding to tax dodging business including politicians? See how they like it. After all they are the one who should done for the incitement. Welcome to Dodge City prior to the Earp brothers & Doc Holiday... IF YOU WANT TO PROTECT AND SAVE YOUR SELF AND YOUR FAMILY, NEVER VOTE DEMOCRAT AGAIN!!!

New York Police Department's budget has been slashed by $1 billionFacing pressure from thousands of constituents calling to defund the police, New York slashed $1 billion from the city's police budget No most New Yorkers want to feel safe, defunding the police is not the way to do this. Vote him out! NYC is a cess pool, BilldeBiaso gave his wife 850,000 she lost it and now he hands her another Billion and puts New York in danger and bows to the marxist voilent mob, Why are New Yorkers not rising up against this tyranny and why are you covering for mob and corruption Liberals caving to the mob not the majority. We need to defund the DNC
