The union that represents New York City’s principals on Wednesday officially pressed the mayor to delay reopening schools for in-person instruction until the end of September, saying they need more time and information to safeguard students and teachers against the coronavirus.
The Council of School Supervisors and Administrators, which represents 6,400 school leaders, said the first few weeks of classes should be conducted remotely. Schools can’t safely reopen on Sept. 10, the union said, stressing that the city hasn’t answered...
Teacher unions are arguing that concerns about the health and safety of educators and staff are being left out of the debate. This is simply not true. Why is it other professions such as nurses and those on the front lines are made to go back to work but teachers are exempt?
