A new federal strike force launched by the U.S. Justice Department on Thursday will focus on disrupting the illegal flow of weapons into Los Angeles from neighboring states while also going after makers of local “ghost guns,” according to local and federal authorities.

Moore said the initiative wouldn’t “change the entire course of the world,” as the LAPD and other agencies already work with the ATF on such investigations, but would add strength to those efforts. Moore said the LAPD knew there were specific pipelines that landed guns in the hands of L.A. criminals, because those guns are recovered during police investigations and then traced back to their origins by LAPD detectives.
