Netflix has decided to edit out a controversial scene from the first season of 13ReasonsWhy.

of Katherine Langford's character, Hannah, which served as the catalyst for the plot of the story. The lengthy scene, in which the teenage character kills herself in a bathtub, has been entirely removed, leaving only the ensuing scene in which her parents find her body after the fact.

Shortly after Netflix announced the news, Yorkey shared his own statement expressing support for the decision and explaining the intent behind the disturbing scene in the context of the story.into a television show, to tell a story that would help young viewers feel seen and heard and encourage empathy in all who viewed it," Yorkey shared."Much as the bestselling book did before us.

"Our creative intent in portraying the ugly, painful reality of suicide in such graphic detail in Season 1 was to tell the truth about the horror of such an act, and make sure no one would ever wish to emulate it," Yorkey added."But as we ready to launch Season 3, we have heard concerns about the scene… and have agreed with Netflix to re-edit it."

Never understood the path the show took. In the book Clay just mentions she took pills. The scene felt more like shock value and, was unnecessary to portray suicide.

Wtf I liked the scene

Could've removed the rape scenes.

This show needs to stop. The first first was good. But other seasons are so unnecessary

May be we watched separate versions to this movie I didn't see no suicide.. they were just talking about it

But they are actually 2 years late to this.

tv_brendon Soft.

yashar Maybe they should have edited out the scenes where suicide is used as a tool to guilt-trip people - wait...

yashar Netflix is so brave for doing this after everyone’s already scene it

Netflix to Remove Controversial Suicide Scene From ‘13 Reasons Why'A controversial scene from an episode of the first season of the popular teen drama is scheduled to be removed following a sustained controversy over whether the show increased the risk of teen suicide. And they start rolling out the 'Why was this removed' line. Seems a little late doesn't it. I watched the season and it was one of the most painful moments I've seen on television I can only imagine what someone feels when they're already suicidal The scene didn’t bother me. But they should have consulted with mental health professionals with regard to that scene before publishing the original cut of the season rather than feeling the need to go back and tamper with it.

Netflix Revises Controversial ’13 Reasons Why’ Suicide SceneShowrunner Brian Yorkey explains why Netflix is editing the controversial 13ReasonsWhy suicide scene: 'No one scene is more important than the life of the show, and its message that we must take better care of each other' Too late for many kids but better than nothing. You wanna do good by viewers, netflix ? TAKE 13ReasonsWhy OFF. It’s an unhealthy, hyperbolic, twisted way of looking at depression. There’s already so much misinformation out there on this topic! Supporting a show like this that romanticizes mental illness just makes it worse. But they'll keep the rape scenes?

Netflix Edits ’13 Reasons Why’ Suicide Scene Following ComplaintsNetflix has made the decision to edit a scene from the season one finale of 13 Reasons Why, which depicted one of the characters taking her life. The nearly three-minute scene showed actress Kather… On the one hand, I get it. On the other, I think that scene was so powerful, I hate it's being removed. Thank God for Pirate Bay, right? There’s so much violence in the world. And SO many suicides—many of which are preventable—so clearly the right thing to do is edit out a powerful scene in 13ReasonsWhy on Netflix
