Nepal's population of one-horned rhinos has increased to its highest number in more than 20 years, partly owing to a pause in tourism due to the Covid-19 pandemic that allowed the animals' habitats to regenerate, conservationists said.

The population of rhinos across four national parks in Nepal increased to 752 in the latest count, up by more than 100 from 645 animals in 2015, according to Haribhadra Acharya, information officer at Nepal's Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation .Since 2000, no previous survey of rhino populations by the Nepali government has found more than 650 of the animals.

"Because the tourists were almost zero, the habits were not disturbed," he said.Nepal's success stands in contrast to many coronavirus-hit conservation projects that have seen a drop in tourism and corresponding fall in funding, including in South America and Africa. It is the largest number of one-horned rhinos seen in the area in more than 20 years.

Good outcome.

Great to hear, people just stay home and away from the wildlife.

Great news in the end we learning here, We should leave animals, more living space, because we are not alone in the world. It is only possible with consideration if we want to enjoy our species and animal diversity for decades to come.

Life finds a way

For the larger rhinos, we are the only major predator for adults (and I don’t think anyone eats them) If humans stopped finding profit in their death, and they had sufficient space to not endanger themselves by endangering humans, their numbers would rise

Why this company CNN won't tell you the truth about what's going on in our country but they're going to tell you about rhinos they don't tell you about the truth about all the writing about the racial stuff that's going on that they keep starting what Nancy Pelosi take care her

Do rhinos experience “gender dysphoria”?

Man and Rhinoceros Coexist in the Global Village

Somewhat surprising as the gestation period for a rhino is about 16 months.

Good. Now leave them alone.

Sometimes you have to hope the pandemic to continue.

Finally. Some good news.

Silver lining. I hope Africa has the same for all its animals.

It is indeed unfortunate that it will need pandemic in order for humans to pause in killing precious diverse species on earth such as rhinos and take pleasure doing so. Lack of education, government enforcement , Greed, being partial Call’s. Professor Isagholian

Then stop the tourists from going anywhere near where they live!

The best thing that could happen to earth, is human becoming extinct...I can see the planet smiling already.
