- NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said on Thursday that the fallout following a tweet from a Houston Rockets official who backed the Hong Kong democracy protests has already cost the league substantial financial losses in China.
“I felt we had made enormous progress in terms of building cultural exchanges with the Chinese people. And, again, I have regret that much of that was lost,” Silver said at the Time 100 Health Summit in New York. In the aftermath of Morey’s tweet, China did not broadcast or stream the two preseason games that were held in the country between the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets while the NBA canceled many player appearances.“Our games are not back on the air in China as we speak,” Silver said in his first public appearance since returning from his recent trip to Asia.
Good!! How the mighty has fallen 😬
So?
Sure. Nobody is forcing NBA to do any business with China. They can refuse to play in China and selling broadcast rights.
But KingJames didn't agree.
Turkey's football players may face disciplinary action from FIFA over their salutes, preach freedom of expression to them.
that's the price to pay. we cannot live our lives according to the PRC.
BeLightinHK Good thing they didn't follow like Cathay Pacific did 😔
It's their own fault. Stop legitimizing China's human rights violations. I,admittedly, am not a big fan of the NBA already. I will not watch another game until the league stops with the China expansion

NBA is a mature & grown up institution. It should always stand and defend the Human Rights of the players and the people. It should never stand behind Tyrants and violators, NEVER no matter what!
Good. Basketball doesn't exist without certain freedoms. LebronIsUninformed
