This performance came just days after a fall during his short program and was quite the comeback. “Growing up, because I spent so much time in skating and solely focusing on skating, I didn't recognize there's other avenues and opportunities for me,” he said.
“[It] honestly helps with skating,” Chen said. “Heading into 2018, if skating doesn't go well, that's it for me. Skating is the one thing that I have, and if it goes well, that's what my life was destined to be. And if it doesn't go well, then you know, it's kind of wasted, which obviously, is a pretty toxic mentality.”
