Mueller should have said Trump obstructed justice, 'could have done more' to hold president accountable, new insider account says

A former prosecutor on special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s team writes in a new book that the group failed to fully investigate President Trump’s financial ties and should have stated explicitly that they believed he obstructed justice, claiming that their efforts were limited by the ever-present threat of Trump disbanding their office and by their own reluctance to be aggressive.

Weissmann said that while he believed it remained possible for Trump to be charged after he leaves office, he was noncommittal on whether he should be. “This sword of Damocles affected our investigative decisions, leading us at certain times to act less forcefully and more defensively than we might have,” Weissmann writes.

Weissmann said seeking the president’s tax returns might have been a “secondary issue,” but the special counsel could have taken other steps, such as examining whether Russian money had found its way to political action committees.Weissmann says his primary task was to lead the team, called Team M, that investigated former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort for financial crimes in hopes he’d become a useful witness.

“Ironically, this requirement would work counter to its intent; Mueller and Aaron did not want any public disagreements now or ever,” Weissmann writes.

The Trump foreign policies Biden might keepIt’s the type of question that does not land well with advisers to Joe Biden: Aren’t there some Donald Trump foreign policy decisions they should keep, and maybe even build upon, if Biden wins the White House? I would be interested in knowing how Trump got those agreements based upon what was uncovered from his dealing with the Ukraine. Bribes, threats, warnings, bullying, trade deals, or other sanctions. I don’t trust Trump in any way. DJT foreign policy decisions we should keep are like Shakespearean works typed by a monkey in a room full of monkeys using typewriters. Biden may NOT win!
