Will County sheriff's deputy Edward Goewey listens to testimony Wednesday during his trial on disorderly conduct charges.
School officials testified they knew Goewey from prior interactions and because his children attend the school, where Goewey helps out at recess and coaches basketball.School secretary Debbie Dexter said she buzzed Goewey into the building Dec. 3, 2021, when he asked to speak with his daughter. At the time, he was his “normal self,” Dexter said.
Dexter told Goewey she would call the principal, who was at home sick, and that Goewey wasn’t allowed to the second floor where the classroom was, but said he left the office and went toward the stairs.Dexter called 911 and other parish employees. She said she was concerned about the safety of the students.Middle school religious teacher Aaron Minix testified he was concerned Goewey was going to enter the classroom and forcibly search the student who had made the threat.
Pretty good argument against arming parents to roam the school. Once your child is potentially in danger any rational thought process is gone. This man was trained for these situations and he couldn't keep it together.
Definitely a guy who should absolutely not be a cop, what a disgrace
Chicago news more like news you find in small towns. All 20-something reporters, no experience in courtrooms or with lawyers. This Tribster should know it's always opening statements, not arguments. I'm sure barrister/media professional BruceWolfChi will verify.
