December 12, 2019, 9:25 PMA team employee has admitted to providing drugs to Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs, who was found dead in July with opioids in his system. The league, in association with its players union, announced the changes to its Joint Drug Program on Thursday morning. The drug will still be tested for and could result in punishment similar to its alcohol and violence policies.
Many players in other professional leagues have campaigned for similar changes in their sport. The NFL announced in May it would be working with the players association to create a Joint Pain Management Committee that would"conduct research concerning pain management and alternative therapies." This May 20, 2019 file photo shows a mature marijuana plant beginning to bloom under artificial lights at Loving Kindness Farms in Gardena, Calif.Among those alternative therapies, the NFL said, are cannabis, cannabinoids and CBD.
"Any player who tests positive for one of these Drugs of Abuse will be referred to the Parties' Joint Treatment Board for an initial evaluation and, if appropriate, formulation of a personalized treatment plan for that Players going forward," the league said."Only Players who fail to cooperate with their initial evaluation or prescribed treatment plan may be subject to discipline.

Well seeing as weed isn't a performance-enhancing drug, I'd say it's long overdue.
Não fumo maconha seu arrombado
Well, legal or not I think we can all agree it's certainly not a athletic enhancing drug.
That's just great, now we're gonna have the pitcher walk out to the mound with a ball in one hand and a bag of Doritos in the other...
Good for you MLB. Now the NFL NHL and NBA need to follow suit.
I don't know what marijuana is... but it sounds foreign. And foreign things are scary. I am scared of marijuana... but on a side note, cannabis is very good for you..
So it’s baseball in slow motion huh?
Biggest contracts, fewer impact injuries, AND they can smoke weed? Baseball pros are winning.
