San Diego Padres rookie shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. departed Sunday’s game against the Washington Nationals with a hamstring injury that occurred when he awkwardly did the splits.
“I think everybody saw what happened on the field,” manager Andy Green told reporters after the Padres lost the game 7-6 in 11 innings. “We’re hoping he’s OK. We’ll find out in time. He seemed to be in pretty good spirits. We’ll find out how severe or how mild it is. ... —The New York Yankees lost second baseman DJ LeMahieu and third baseman Gio Urshela to injuries during Sunday’s game in San Francisco against the Giants.
The incident happened Thursday when Reyes experienced a rough outing for Triple-A Memphis, giving up three runs, three hits and two walks over 2 2/3 innings. Also, third baseman Anthony Rendon was out of the starting lineup for the sixth time in seven days and could be headed to the IL. He is batting .356 with six homers and 18 RBIs in 20 games.
