FILE - In this Nov. 7, 2017, file photo, Republican Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft speaks in Valley Park, Mo. Missouri's top election official says abortion-rights advocates can start collecting signatures for a public vote on a new law restricting abortions. But abortion-rights advocates say Republican Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft's Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, decision leaves them with only two weeks to collect enough signatures.
Opponents of the law sought a referendum in the hopes that voters would overturn it. But with only two weeks to gather the more than 100,000 voter signatures required to put it on the 2020 ballot, an American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri official says there’s simply not enough time. Critics of the law have accused Republican Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft of dragging his feet to process the petition.
But Ashcroft spokeswoman Maura Browning on Wednesday said the office met legal deadlines and certified the petition five days early.
AntiTrumpReport The law was entirely predictable in today's political climate. How did they not have a contingency plan?
Why would they want to put it to a public vote? Funny, I always thought the government is for the people. Big brother is over stepping his boundaries!

Who cares anymore? I mean who lives in the terrible state? God, leave let them have it.

rhonda_harbison Best way to block the bill is to seek an injunction by a court and file suit to have it declared unconstitutional.
It's a red state and there are few Democrats in the legislature to get anything past the 'republicans'.
Many women don’t even know they are pregnant until after 8 weeks.

Everyone's giving up, just like these guys counted on. I guess having a 'handler,' makes all the difference in the world. I wonder what they gave up.
