By Katie Deighton Close Katie Deighton Sept. 29, 2020 6:00 am ET Microsoft Corp. is developing an update to its Teams package of workplace collaboration tools to replace one of the less-mourned losses of pandemic living: the commute to and from work.
“Enterprises across the world right now are coming to us and saying, ‘I don’t think we will have organizational resilience if we don’t make well-being a priority,’” Ms. Janardhan said. “I think we at Microsoft have a role, almost a responsibility, to give enterprises the capabilities to create these better daily structures and help people be their best.”
“I don’t miss my commute per se,” said Adam Clenton, a London-based lawyer who spent 80 minutes commuting each day before his office closed during the pandemic. “But it did give me the chance to switch off on the way home. It helped demarcate the day in a way that isn’t possible now.” It then asks users to describe how the day went by selecting one of five facial expressions ranging from elated to frustrated.
Sounds like there just trying to monitor peoples free time and get them to do unpaid work related activities in the time saved not commuting
Narrator voice: it was not a good idea.
1.5 hr in a good day each way, a good idea for whom? Are they paying those hours?
They also thought “clippy” was a good idea
They are out of their everlovin' minds
The only good thing about the last eight months and they want to take it away.
Nope. Not missing commuting or traffic. No thanks, Microsoft.
It is literally the only thing I don’t miss.
No
My wise dad told me “they don’t pay you for your commute.” I left NYC where it took 1.5 h going AND coming. Never took me more than 15 minutes to and from for 44 years in 5 beautiful locales. Life is yours to create.
Ummm Microsoft is wrong
Hard pass.
A little... but then I realized that podcasts will play on any set of speakers, not just car ones.
Citing a 19 year old study. Nice. 'And even though getting to work wasn’t a notably cherished part of pre-lockdown life, a 2001 study suggested that most people would choose to commute even if they were given the option to give up the journey.'
Honestly NOT a good idea.
Huh? No thanks
This abnormality needs to end.
Hell no
It's normalcy that I miss and being free to go out anytime I feel like is the part I miss. The commute to work with all the traffic and fatigue, not so much.
I think it is totally ok, if using it is not a strict rule. We are different, and maybe someone really need this feature.
I didn't have to commute for 4 months and I loved it. I absolutely hate having to drive in now. Seriously considering changing jobs now to find a work from home solution.
WSJ, NO, don’t miss the 2 hours a day commute!
I just miss working with my kids not around me
No one misses wasting 2-3 hrs getting from point A to B
Ummm.... NO! not missing a complete waste of time commuting to work in bumper-to-bumper traffic!! Much less the pollution I’m breathing every morning and afternoon!!
One more way Microsoft 💯 misunderstands their customers. The lack of customer input and consideration in their products is the main reason people end up hating them, even if they don’t realize it. 😂 But to think the commute is what people miss from going to the office?! 🤣
How is Trump’s coronavirus “plan” working out? Need to rid ourselves of Trump Republicans that STILL can't come up with a national plan to fight and reduce the coronavirus for all Americans, and that is what will get the economy moving again. Anyone but a Trump Republican. VOTE!
lol no.
I certainly don't miss any part of my commute but mine was an hour of driving each way. I still listen to my podcasts, just while I'm doing more productive things than wondering who is going to do what stupid thing on the highway to get me killed.
I get what y’all saying but nah...
Yeah I’m sure my coworkers and boss will respect the 2 hours I block off to fake commute and set goals 🙄
They are absolutely incorrect.
Microsoft is wrong on that one
Yeah, I really miss dodging lunatics on the highway for a total of 3 hours a day. Hilarious.
Commuting to work in my country could take up to 2 hours each way, I dont believe everyone will miss that.
They would be wrong
My husband says his daily reflection will be “I hate Teams” and wants to know whether he can use the yuck emoji 20 times.
Yeah, my wife will buy that?!
Confirmed: Microsoft has too much time on its hands
Says no one. Ever!
Another TheOnion article in the wild. Some of your reporting is truly genius! Keep up the good work.
Oh I definitely don’t miss my commute. This concept failed...next
I “demarcate my day” with a clock.
How much money was spent on this abortion
what a dumb idea
No
God gives us instructions, Trump can not be the Next President! President is the most important person to lead the country. 200,000 people died because of Trump!
MSFTnews Interesting idea, my company pushed hard on work/life balance but for those jobs that don't, this is a cool idea.
Microsoft I know I haven’t been missing my commutes. 😂
Microsoft Go walk around the block instead. Jeez .. virtual commute. What’s next ... virtual water cooler break.
Microsoft Sorry Microsoft I've never liked the commute
Microsoft Why are Bill Gate's post's comments turned off(no need for question mark or answer).
To go where? Microsoft now silicone chip Mac wants everyone at home.
What are the good parts, again?
Hahaha nice try, but we won’t be gaslit into working in an office and commuting again
StopTheMadnessStopTrump
Jajajaja would be nice if Microsoft simply does their job fine!!!! Just fine!!!!
The last thing I’ve missed is commuting! 😂 WFH FOREVER! K, thanks, bye!
What the hell is this?
That is the DUMBEST thing I have ever heard of.
The only good part is blocking the asshole in the next lane from getting over when he wants to. Those little victories got me through the day.
wow
