Presidential hopeful Michael Bennet says that recent events have underscored how the Democratic process has been skewed with an emphasis on polling and ratings rather than substance

SAN FRANCISCO — Presidential candidate Michael Bennet told hundreds of Democratic National Committee delegates here Friday that the party is drowning out critical voices in the primary instead of allowing the kind of broad debate needed to defeat Donald Trump.

“I’m ready to lead our party and our country to victory next November, but I’ve got to be honest, and I say it with love,’’ the Colorado senator told the delegates at the party’s summer meeting. “The DNC process is stifling debate at a time when we need it most ... rewarding celebrity candidates with Twitter followers,’’ while favoring candidates with followings on Facebook — a platform that he said played a questionable role in the 2016 election.

“Jay Inslee dropped out of this race this week,’’ because “he didn’t qualify for the climate change town hall,’’ said Bennet. That Sept. 4 CNN forum has the same criteria to qualify as the September debates: 130,000 unique donors and a 2 percent showing in four major polls. Neither Inslee or Bennet reached both those thresholds. “Think about that for a moment — if we wanted to be the party that excluded people, we’d be Republicans.

“These rules have created exactly the wrong outcome, and they will not help us beat Donald Trump,’’ Bennet said.

DNC needs to make the media outlets actually ReleaseThePolls. as far as media outlets, only CNN & Fox have released a poll since the debates. That's ridiculous.

MichaelBennet How do you measure substance if not with polls and willing contributors? Certainly not via media pundits.

Frankly, the candidates whining about the rules they agreed to but didn’t go their way make me think twice about voting another person into the White House who thinks the rules don’t apply to them.

And Tom Steyer can just piss off. He joined very late in the game into an already overcrowded field, and he couldn’t even qualify for the second Dem debate. He deserves no pass.

You and every candidate on the bubble knew and accepted the rules going in, and had every opportunity to get donor and poll numbers up to standard between campaigning and 2 national debates. The field is overcrowded at it is, and if you can’t make the cut, it’s time to bow out.

MichaelBennet Why won’t SenatorBennet drop out of the Presidential race, stop selling books & get back to working for Coloradans? He could’ve been meeting w people around the state hearing about our fears of climate change, inequality, gun violence, healthcare & income inequality. copolitics

MichaelBennet Hon, it ain't the DNCs fault you're perpetually at 1%.

MichaelBennet This exactly what you say when you barely have 40k followers after being a senator for years

MichaelBennet So twitter followers, arent american? 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡 drop out clown

MichaelBennet MichaelBennet's hopeful candidate? Thanks for trying but no...

MichaelBennet Sen Bennett. We admire you. i suggest, you overreacted .There has to be rules No one listens to 3 minute speeches on an overcrowded stage .i sent $3 to Steyer .Not that i support him, yet .i want to see if he is mean enough to stand ☝ to Donnie . 👍 luck 4 debate 4 .

MichaelBennet You Don't have a chance of winning this election! You can cry all you want but your poll numbers tell the story and your lack of donors says it all! Howling at the DNC shows a lack of Leadership! Wake up and smell the coffee!

MichaelBennet

MichaelBennet Twitter isn’t real life. Neither are climate change taxes. Politicians don’t understand real life problems so they invent them.

he's right!

zmanaz No dipshit. It's about policy. Why do you think Trump was elected? Americans are tired of the centrist neoliberal third way Dems. They bought into Trump's fake populism. If only they would give the progressives a shot. They'd see what they've been missing all these years.

Then how'd you do it? Don't bitch about the problem without a solution of your own.

MichaelBennet How naive can he be? Surely he should know about the corruption in the Democratic Party.

Voters are chosing and all these men do is whine. I will bet the women who drop out won’t be whining.

As opposed to his preferred emphasis on mining & fracking billionaire Phil Anschutz' hand-picked sockpuppet vanity candidates, Hickenlooper & Bennet.

Stop.

He wasn’t likable! Neither is JohnDelaney . Seems like they think we’re crazy for wanting to change our Trickle Down System from 1980s, but facts on the ground are saying Trickle Down and Invest in Military ain’t working! ewarren has a plan! The plans will work!

If you can't get 2% at this stage in the race.. you don't deserve to be on the stage. Stop Whining !!

Agreed, but that's the reality of the political climate social media has created, the candidate needs to be part politician and part celebrity to beat the orange menace.

Is he dropping out?

He’s right

“It’s undemocratic that people with more support do better”
