Nicki Minaj was among those asking the actor to change the brand's name.

"I just wanna say on behalf of myself & my partners, our intention was never to offend or hurt a culture & hoped to celebrate & shine a positive light on," he wrote."Last few days has been a lot of listening. A lot of learning & engaging in countless community conversations…"He assured his followers that he and his partners have heard the criticism and they are responding."We hear you.

The initial outcry began after media reports began circulating that Jordan's girlfriend, Lori Harvey, had posted images from what appeared to be a launch party for the new brand, including its original name. When word came out that Jordan had filed to trademark the term, as noted by ET, the outcry intensified. Especially as it included the claim that the word has"no meaning in any language." That's far from the truth.

Michael B. Jordan Apologizes for Rum Brand's Controversial Name - E! OnlineMichael B. Jordan addressed criticism of his new rum brand's name on June 22 after Nicki Minaj and others called for him to change it. Wow didn't know black people could appropriate other black cultures. I'm thinking someone should print a list of acceptable words, subjects, & talking points. Then we can write scripts & that's how we'll communicate with each other. If we flub a line our script supervisor will correct us with the list. LMAO Sad The man is black. It's HIS culture? What is wrong with people these days? Jesus. Black people hating black people now. Ridiculous carry on.

Michael B. Jordan Responds to Accusations of Cultural AppropriationThe actor took to Instagram to apologize after facing backlash over the name of his alcohol line. Rooted in Caribbean and Trinidadian culture.. As if Trinidad isn’t a part of Caribbean or has some unique claim 2 this French word… zzzzzzzzz... NickiMinaj is wrong about other islands copying Trinidad Emancipation day Jouvert tradition. Many other Caribbean islands tie Jouvert celebrations 2 parades & Festivals & have been doing that from in 50’s & earlier. They didn’t copy Trinidad’s 80’s Jouvert Emancipation custom.
