Mexicans head to the polls in a race seen as a referendum on President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's policies and efforts to shake up Mexico's institutions

Mexicans have begun voting in elections seen as pivotal to President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's promised "transformation" of a country shaken by the coronavirus pandemic, a deep recession and drug-related violence.

"Voters are choosing really between two competing visions of Mexico and its future – between Lopez Obrador's Fourth Transformation and to a certain extent a return to the policies that preceded it."Electoral officers set up a ballot box before the opening of the polls for mid-term elections in Acapulco, Mexico, June 6, 2021.

"The election is widely seen as a referendum on AMLO and strong support for the ruling coalition could embolden the president to pursue more interventionist policies," said analysts at the Capital Economics consultancy firm. The collapse of an elevated metro line in the capital on May 3 that left 26 people dead does not appear to have had a significant impact on his support levels.

Biden rejects latest GOP offer on infrastructure, but talks will continueThe Senate Republican offer included $50 billion more in spending, but Biden conveyed it still 'did not meet his objectives,' the White House said. Then switch parties and help Republicans since that's who you are Joe. Manchin didn’t demand this type of sh*t when Republicans passed those yummy tax cuts for the richest people in this country or when 🐢 McConnell nuked the filibuster to stuff Supreme Court. He couldn’t even get 10 votes to get the 1/6 commission. What he wants shouldn’t matter. We need to vote him out if he can’t get his shit together!! The Republicans do not want to help or work for the American people, he needs to recognize that!!

Biden stuck between Manchin and GOP in infrastructure dealWith legislation that could partially define his legacy hanging in the balance, Biden is facing a largely hostile GOP and some Democrats - particularly West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin - who are making an infrastructure bill's passage in the Senate very difficult. Garrett Haake and Lisa Lerer join to discuss. To insist on bipartisanship when the GQP's idea of 'bipartisanship' is 'everything we demand and even then we'll fuck you up because you DESERVE what we do to you' is no different from treason. The GQP must no longer be allowed - physically - to obstruct an entire damn country. He knows there aren't Republican votes. So. Manchin doesn't want Democrats to advance key items on President Biden's agenda.
