Despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic that has killed over 220,000 Americans, President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump will host a Halloween event at the White House this weekend, while many states have cancelled events entirely and the CDC recommends lower risk activities like pumpkin carving, a movie night with people you live with and a virtual costume contest.
Guests will be required to wear face masks and practice social distancing, and hand sanitizer will be available throughout the grounds. The president and first lady — who both tested positive for Covid-19 in early October — will personally greet the costumed trick-or-treaters as they pass the White House’s South Portico. from the campaign trail as her husband fights for reelection this year.
Various government bodies will be there to provide entertainment to guests, including NASA , the Department of Transportation , the Department of Agriculture and the Air Force . Halloween events up and down the country have been scared off by Covid-19. Many states’ restrictions on gatherings have put a stop to events and the CDC warns that many traditional Halloween activities are high-risk for spreading viruses.
