I was working in Fort Lauderdale as a cashier and I was laid off due to COVID-19. I'm a member of the UNITE HERE Local 355 in Miami and the union was the only organization that reached out to me to ask how am I doing.I volunteered for the primary. And when it was for the general, I'm like, ‘Yes, why not? This is the big thing!’ So I started canvassing. I was calling people starting in August. In September, we started knocking on doors.
I was working here, I had health insurance, but I lost it because I lost my job due to the pandemic. This is not fair. This is not acceptable. Not only the governor of Florida failed us with unemployment, but Trump also failed us. There's no way we should have lost our healthcare coverage.My friends, they are very excited. They want to go out and vote. Even the ones that were like, no, they're not going to vote, I talked to them, and they see me, young and Black.
