McConnell for the first time publicly cast blame on Trump for the violent attack on the Capitol earlier this month as he moved to try to preserve Republican sway in the Senate on the final day of the party’s majority status

WASHINGTON—Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for the first time publicly cast blame on President Trump forearlier this month as he moved to try to preserve Republican sway in the Senate on the final day of the party’s majority status.

“The mob was fed lies,” Mr. McConnell said on the Senate floor Tuesday. “They were provoked by the president and other powerful people, and they tried to use fear and violence to stop a specific proceeding of the first branch of the federal government which they did not like.” Mr. McConnell’s rebuke followed an earlier statement that he is considering whether to vote to convict Mr. Trump, which will take place after he leaves office and Democrats take effective control of the body, with 50 senators and incoming Vice President Kamala Harris breaking any ties to their advantage. At Mr. Trump’s first impeachment trial last year, Mr. McConnell took pains to corral all 53 Republican senators into voting against a conviction and succeeded with all but one of them, Sen.

As that new balance takes effect with the seating of the two new Democratic senators from Georgia, Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, Mr. McConnell on Tuesday underscored his effort to preserve, a longstanding rule that empowers the minority party to block most bills before the Senate. The rule requires that three-fifths of all senators—usually 60—vote to proceed before a bill can be brought to the floor for a vote. There is momentum among Democratic lawmakers and progressive activists, equal to the simple majority needed to pass a bill. That would enable Democrats to pass many of President-elect Joe Biden’s agenda items without Republican support.

Politics is not an ethical profession. McConnell has shown he has no ethics and is still part of the Republican elite where power is their focus and the American people get pushed to the side. It is time for his state to recall him

He doesn’t have the balls to stand up for what is right

Attempt at CYA

Don’t listen to tucker carlson when he laughs at the word “insurrection”. That was exactly what happened, it’s not an exaggeration. His smug comments about semantics are important - he is trying to manipulate your memory to minimize this very important event.

Hazmat city, I'm leaving. Bye Hey donald.

McConnell when you are bending over taking it from Schumer do you at least give him a tug.

By now, the gamers like McConnell do not want him around. Discredited, he is useless; shorn of the presidency and unable to provide cover for their gamesmanship, he will be irrelevant to their daily purposes ~ T Snyder

wow soo brave !

Could one of you Trump MAGA Supporters please try to justify this: Donald Trump is pardoning a guy indicted by the Trump Justice Department for defrauding Trump supporters of millions of dollars on the “We Build The Wall” charity. Does it get any ‘SWAMPY-ER’ than this?

He sure did and intended to have VP Pence hung and you and other Republicans kidnapped and killed. Look around Senator McConnell the other traitors are in the room.

It’s about time

Trump 'fed' the mob lies. McConnell fed Trump. Not looking good in any direction.

he should blame him in his presidency, not now that it is about 5 and half hours to inauguration.

More gop butt covering post riot. It means nothing just like what most congressional gop stand for, NOTHING

But, how will he vote

Things only a man who will never ask his constituents for their vote again would do.

Good for him. Where the hell has he been past 4 years!

WSJ, Sounds like Mitch is finally ready to take out that Presidential Trash that sat in the Oval Office... Wonder how the Trump Terrorist MAGA Organization is going to take that... Hopefully they behave or get arrested before they do something stupid AGAIN!

Long past time for Republicans to stop carrying the water for the leader of the Patriot Party.

Politicians only turn on their allies if their ally is 100% doomed and there's a possibility they could go down in flames with them.

McConnell says he would 'absolutely' support Trump as 2024 nomineeSenate Minority Leader McConnell says he would 'absolutely' support fmr. President Trump if he won the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. Earlier this month, McConnell called Trump's role in the Jan. 6 riot a 'disgraceful dereliction of duty.' He knows Trump will never be the nominee. Mitch just wants the party to unite so he can win back the Senate. Oh Mitch, you're the sly one! Ah, the thrill of bribery and the agony of kompromat! You freaking have to be kidding me. So McConnell flip-flops again. I got news for McConnell there's almost a hundred million people in the United States that will never have Trump be president again. I don't know what's wrong with this man but he's outdone his sell-by date

After not-guilty vote, McConnell says Trump 'morally responsible' for Capitol riotU.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell called Donald Trump 'practically and morally responsible' for his supporters' deadly attack on the Capitol, only moments after voting to acquit the Republican former president on an impeachment charge of inciting the melee. The top Senate Republican explained the unexpected turnabout at the end of a five-day impeachment trial, by declaring it unconstitutional to convict Trump of misconduct now that the former president has left office and become a private citizen. The Senate earlier in the week found that the trial was constitutional in a 56-44 vote. Mr. McConnell has NO credibility left; zip. If so Moscow Mitch, why did you vote against impeachment? Sadly seems patriotism is a struggle for Republicans!! Dems may lay claim to morality but their open hatred and vicious politics sure show otherwise.

The big picture: Trump has not officially said whether he will run in 2024, but as Axios' Mike Allen reports, the former president 'plans to send the message [during his CPAC speech on Sunday] that he is the Republicans' 'presumptive 2024 nominee' with a vise grip on the party's base.'Get market news worthy of your time with Axios Markets.
