After the Rockets pushed their lead to 18 early in the second half, the Mavericks let Doncic go to work. He scored 19 points in the remaining 10 minutes of the third quarter after scoring 10 in the first half.The Rockets recovered and with a 9-1 run capped by Eric Gordon’s fourth 3-pointer, they led by seven midway through the fourth quarter. But it had become a question of whether they could get enough stops. Instead, with the game on the line, they could not score.
The Rockets never caught them. Doncic finished with 39 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists while Wood and Tim Hardaway Jr. both had 21, Wood adding a season high five blocked shots. After a pair of iso possessions, the Mavericks had either Jalen Green’s man or Sengun’s set screens for Doncic and he went to work. Sengun picked up a fourth foul and an early seat.
