Matt Damon wants to clarify his remarks about retiring the 'f-slur for homosexual' only months ago.
The actor is clarifying his remarks about retiring the 'f-slur for homosexual' only months ago.
The actor addressed his controversial comments in a statement released on Monday night afterrevealing in a profile for The Sunday Timesthat he only just recently stopped using the “f-slur for a homosexual” at the behest of his daughter. In the piece, Damon said that he used the word “months ago” as part of a joke, which prompted one of his children to write a “treatise” on “how that word is dangerous.”
“I said, ‘I retire the f-slur!’ I understood,” Damon told the outlet, leaving many to wonder exactly why he was just coming to this realization. Now, the Oscar winner is claiming that he has “never called anyone ‘f****t’ in my personal life” and elaborating on what he was trying to convey in the exchange.
“During a recent interview, I recalled a discussion I had with my daughter where I attempted to contextualize for her the progress that has been made — though by no means completed — since I was growing up in Boston and, as a child, heard the word ‘f*g’ used on the street before I knew what it even referred to,” Damon said in a statement provided to headtopics.com
People. “I explained that that word was used constantly and casually and was even a line of dialogue in a movie of mine as recently as 2003; she in turn expressed incredulity that there could ever have been a time where that word was used unthinkingly. To my admiration and pride, she was extremely articulate about the extent to which that word would have been painful to someone in the LGBTQ+ community regardless of how culturally normalized it was. I not only agreed with her but thrilled at her passion, values and desire for social justice.”
“I have never called anyone ‘f****t’ in my personal life and this conversation with my daughter was not a personal awakening,” he continued. “I do not use slurs of any kind. I have learned that eradicating prejudice requires active movement toward justice rather than finding passive comfort in imagining myself ‘one of the good guys.’”
Damon concluded his message by saying, “Given that open hostility against the LGBTQ+ community is still not uncommon, I understand why my statement led many to assume the worst. To be as clear as I can be, I stand with the LGBTQ+ community.” Read more: HuffPost »

Matt Damon Says Daughter Taught Him Not To Use 'F-Slur For A Homosexual' Months AgoWe repeat: months ago. thanks That’s what it took, huh? I chose not to use that word because it’s super offensive to a lot of people. How dim is he that he needs a kid to teach him?
Matt Damon Says Daughter Taught Him Not To Use 'F-Slur For A Homosexual' Months AgoWe repeat: months ago. I heard the word all the time in the 90s. I also heard tons of other slurs for race and gender. Times change. The people so quick to cancel someone now had parents who used the same words 30 yrs ago. Rather than cancel him, congratulate his kids for not repeating his ignorance.
Matt Damon Says He Recently 'Retired' The 'F-Slur' After His Daughter Told Him To'I understood.' Took him long enough. Fucknugget He doesn’t understand if a teenager had to explain why it was the right thing to do and his only takeaway is to shut the f**k up.
Matt Damon Says He Stopped Using Homophobic F-Slur Just RecentlyMatt Damon says he stopped using the word in recent months. Someone probably has a tape of him saying it so this is a preemptive move. These comments are funny to me, because people act like it's hard to just be respectful, Christians get mad when they are under attack yet want to be homophobic, straight white males are the same whine when they get attacked but want to say slurs, how about just respect others? I honestly think he was trying to highlight how young people can teach the Elders how to nix certain words from your vocabulary. Shall we move on to the R-word. I bet no one coming after him can claim they haven't used the R-word in the last 10 years.
