If Montgomery County were to adopt this policy, it would be the first program of its kind in the country and among the first in the world.

December 13, 2019, 9:30 AMNew York's Department of Transportation has released a video of a black BMW slamming into the back of a truck, in an effort to show the dangers of losing focus while driving. While some states have pushed back against the implementation of red-light cameras, one councilmember from Montgomery County, Maryland, thinks current photographic deterrents are not enough.

“Maryland is facing an epidemic of serious crashes from distracted driving," Hucker told ABC News."We have over 38,000 crashes a year and they result in far too many fatalities and serious injuries."Councilmember Tom Hucker applauds during an event in North Bethesda, Md., Dec. 3, 2018.According to government records, Montgomery County saw only 20 homicides in 2018 compared to 27 fatal car crashes the same year -- one reason Hucker is arguing for such drastic action to be taken.

“If we’re serious about traffic safety, we need to look at using the best available technology to keep people safe and use the best tools at our disposal,” Hucker said. “This is a new tool that is available on the market. But we don’t have the authority to use it yet.” “It’s a very slippery slope,” Townsend said. “Are they really doing this for traffic safety reasons or because there’s a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?”

What would Montgomery County do if an illegal alien was texting and driving?

Traffic related deaths due to distracted driving dwarf gun violence and yet our elected representatives are silent. The NRA's influence in policy is dwarfed by the tech industry and still not a peep...

This will end up being ruled unconstitutional.

No.

Yes, PLEASE!

They should put a camera in every official of Montgomery County’s bedroom so we can see if they are breaking any laws. We want to make sure you are the type of people we want in office.

Montgomery County is garbage and I guarantee these cameras are going to be in the poorest areas.

I want to see how this turns out.

That won't work either with Speech to Text, hands free is legal.

Montgomery County is like California cities. Super rich and a whole lotta poor. Standard liberal city.
