Martin Luther King Jr.'s warning in 1964 that moral progress lags far behind scientific and technological progress remains as relevant as ever. | Perspective by Horganism

Wanting to post something to honor Martin Luther King Day, I searched online for commentary by King on science. I found some examples in a terrific 2012 column by science journalist Cara Santa Maria, who quoted King decrying how science had served the causes of white supremacy and slavery. I also discovered King's 1964 Nobel Peace Prize acceptance lecture, in which he dwells on the gap between our scientific and moral progress.

"Yet, in spite of these spectacular strides in science and technology, and still unlimited ones to come, something basic is missing. There is a sort of poverty of the spirit which stands in glaring contrast to our scientific and technological abundance. The richer we have become materially, the poorer we have become morally and spiritually. We have learned to fly the air like birds and swim the sea like fish, but we have not learned the simple art of living together as brothers.

Horganism Agree, the natural order of Progress is Study, Research, Insight, Discover, Develop & Application. Always a time gap from knowing and learning to do good with, which increase greater as more knowledge required to do good. Simplify education with most current data is the solution.

Horganism while i fully agree with this point of the great MLK, shall we move to have a science mag to be free from political messaging for a little while?

Horganism He did not get his Doctorate from being stupid....he got it from explaining reality. Science can only be useful when it is creates reality.

Horganism Missing Martin Luther king Jr....

How to watch the 'Ice Moon' rise on Martin Luther King Jr. DayThe full moon is the first of 2022. Screw your fake moon marketing flavors. It’s the moon. Not something we should ignore every day except for the mere 24-hour window each month that it is considered “full”, making it briefly worth looking at. This whole marketing promotion for the moon is sheer idiocy.
