NEW: Memphis environmentalist, Black activist and single mom Marquita Bradshaw scores upset win in Democratic primary for open U.S. Senate seat in Tennessee.

Hagerty rode the endorsement of President Donald Trump to victory. The Nashville businessman emerged from a tough challenge from trauma surgeon Manny Sethi to clinch his party’s nomination.for the seat, months before Hagerty declared himself a candidate. Sethi had already been running for about a month when Trump’s tweet turned the contest upside down.

Hagerty had other big political names on his side beyond Trump. He had endorsements from Vice President Mike Pence, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee and Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas, while others backed him with campaign cash, including Sen. Alexander through his PAC and former Gov. Bill Haslam, for whom Hagerty served as state economic development commissioner.

Congratulations to Ms.Bradshaw's primary victory. Fresh perspectives to address this country's problems in sorely needed. On the GOPher side same 'ol recycled regurgitated players with endorsements and $$'s including lamar himself. And a donnyt tweet always brings the cult!

Single mom? You don't say.....

Who won on the Republican side?

Congratulations!

The headline is about Bradshaw but the article is devoted to the Republican who was backed by trump. WTF?

Awesome!

No wonder she's single.

My word of advice: Never vote for anyone describing himself as an activist. Can't be trusted with our freedoms.

Congratulations to Bradshaw...If you wanted to highlight her opponent you shouldn't have used her picture. Lazy journalism.

I don’t think she’s gonna win but at least she beat those corporate asshole dems.

goldietaylor Why is this the headline when 75% of the article is about the Republican primary race?

Why is this about TN Republicans when the headline suggests I would learn about Ms. Bradshaw. She's the new candidate that made history. Why y'all do this slanted report?

Lol,good ole rocky top, still racing in reverse I see. I notice the pills, dope and hep c are still controlling things. Way to go guys, way to go.

The first 4 graphs of this story talk about Bradshaw. The following 13 talk about Hagerty and Trump. Hmm.

Williamson County is no longer just the wealthiest county in the state, it now has complete power throughout Tennessee. Gov Bill Lee, Sen Marsha Blackburn, former St. Speaker Glen Casada, and Bill Haggerty (although born in Sumner) either are from or reside in Williamson Co.
