Man fatally shot on Jersey City street, first homicide in Hudson County of 2022

The man was shot multiple times in the back just after 12:30 on Belmont Avenue, near Crescent Avenue.

The county and Jersey City saw a sharp increase in homicides in 2021. There were 30 killings across the county and 24 in Jersey City last year, up from 18 in the county and 16 in the city in 2020.The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for details on the fatal shooting.
