, for example). And in this latest round, after asking her “team of advisors” to help her accelerate her giving, she donated a “no strings attached” nearly $4.2 billion to 384 organizations. Those include food banks, Meals on Wheels, plus local affordable housing funds, legal defense funds, and debt-forgiveness programs, a whole host of YWCAs, among others. She donated to organizations that speak directly to this moment of struggle.

The miracle, of course, is that Scott—whose divorce from Jeff Bezos happened in a spectacularly public fashion, thanks to thebreaking Bezos’s long-term affair publicly—did not get down. She got even. And not, to public knowledge, by spending her Amazon money all on herself . She got even by doing what he does not: sharing his unbelievable, unconscionable, indescribable wealth with those he makes his money off of, i.e. everyone else in the world.

But also it’s a miracle because a person with that kind of wealth listened, and she did so compassionately, with a Dickinson poem at the ready.
