“Lovecraft Country” is not being renewed for a second season at HBO, Variety has confirmed. “We will not be moving forward with a second season of Lovecraft Country,” HBO sa…

“We will not be moving forward with a second season of Lovecraft Country,” HBO said in a statement. “We are grateful for the dedication and artistry of the gifted cast and crew, and to Misha Green, who crafted this groundbreaking series. And to the fans, thank you for joining us on this journey.”

The series debuted its first — and now only — season in August 2020. The move to not proceed with more of the series is not altogether unexpected, as the show was based on the solo novel of the same name by Matt Ruff. HBO has made similar decisions with other series, such as “Big Little Lies.” That show only received a second season after the author of the book on which it was based, Liane Moriarty, penned original material to serve as the basis for another season.

“Lovecraft Country” followed 25-year-old Atticus Black , who joins up with his friend Letitia “Leti” Dandridge and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America to find his missing father. They must survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the malevolent spirits that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback. The series also starred Michael K. Williams, Aunjanue Ellis, Wunmi Mosaku, Abbey Lee, and Jamie Chung.

The series was written and executive produced by Misha Green. In addition to Green, Jordan Peele executive produced through his Monkeypaw Productions banner. J.J. Abrams and Ben Stephenson also executive produced through Bad Robot Productions. David Knoller was also an executive producer. Other executive producers include episode 1 director Yann Demange and episodes 2 and 3 director Daniel Sackheim. David Knoller executive produced episode 1 of the series.

The show received strong critical praise upon its release, including earning a Golden Globe nomination for best drama series earlier this year. The show is also eligible for this year’s Emmy Awards.

Ppl of color have to work 10 times as hard, always. It seems we never get the same type of support. They renewed BS tv shows and canceled something that could have been so great. Black fantasy shows on television are extremely rare and it’s because it’s not given the opportunity.

Better this way, started well but already from the second it drops and then becomes monezza. Only the American press could please with their politically correct

Beyond bummed. (I was so looking forward to a grown-up kickass Dee.) And Hollywood wonders why they can't find anything original - because they keep killing it off! I hope someone else picks it up.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hbo i need more Letti and Ruby 😭😭😭 please save this epic show netflix PrimeVideo

Good. JJ abrams shouldn’t have had his hands is this show at all. Man couldn’t scare a cat. Took a great concept by Matt Ruff and shit all over it with his shitty monsters.

This show wasn’t good

😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

No!!!! such a great take on the mystic realms in another culture. We need more shows like this! -From a Hispanic dad in OC

There weren’t enough docile “yasa massa” take the moral high road black characters in it to sooth and comfort white characters or white viewership. Any historical black series or film that shows black folk fighting back is often canceled. Same thing with Underground.

Why am I not surprised...

This is why I'm don't watch anything until it has at least four seasons.

Nooooooooooooooo

Wtf?

If enough people watched and enjoyed the show and if the producers and cast wanted to continue it, they would have. Stop the race nonsense

This breaks my heart. It was so good, fun, interesting. Such a shame.

This sucks, Lovecraft Country was one of the very few shows that I looked forward to each new epi and truly savored

Definitely ready for the movie. Let's go!

This is a big mistake HBO. Our family bought hbomax just so we could watch LovecraftCountry and there hasn’t been a another new show of its caliber worth continuing the subscription. You cancelled LovecraftCountry so we’ll cancel hbomax

SignoraBatiste Whhhhatttttt!! Whhyyyyy!!

JScp73 now this is a shame. Let’s just keep hope we get Gangs of London S02

That’s really sad, it was a great show i think a lot of ppl missed.

RIP 😭

Yeah, because white people don’t like the racism they have being put in they faces 🤷🏽‍♂️. And damn sure can’t imagine us Black people in syfi. Tragic.

This show started off great and was just a mess a few episodes in.

But Outer Banks got multiple seasons? White Fragility is cancer bro. Stop enabling it

No! That sucks.

Noooooo! I have watched this series 4 times because it was wonderfully done, not to mention all the things you catch upon additional viewings. This is a travesty. There was some incredible and important storytelling in this show.

They changed too much from the book. The book is great. The show was not.

Sad to hear but the only color that counts is green.

😭😭

Ugh my heart breaks tonight.

Still got the book though ^^ so HBOs lost frankly.

Dang

Fuck off HBO show was actually good

Show fucking sucked lol people liked it cause black people smh 🤦🏽‍♂️

BOOOOOOO This was worth continuing

Go woke, go broke. watchmen lovecraftcountry

What the actual hell

RACISM!!!! Or not, I don't know. I'm just saying what the twitverse would say...

☹️

Too bad. That was a genuinely weird, way off kilter show.

Um… what?

The show was good tho

😭😭😭

Good, stop making shows promoting White people bad. Stop making shows promoting any specific race bad.

wtf?

Shocker

Good it was ass

FoH HBO & hbomax lemme cancel my subscription!!

Fell apart after like 3 episodes. Cool with this one biting the dust 🤷🏻‍♂️
